The Dandy cancelled
Another part of my childhood away...:(
After months of speculation, and after the speculation finally hitting the newspapers earlier this week, it has been confirmed that the Dandy is to be cancelled in a few months time, ending with a bumper-sized 75th Anniversary issue.
End Of The Dandy
Although I haven't read it since, most likely, the late 70s it was a major part of my childhood and it's a sad day to see another famous title go the way of its stablemates The Beezer, The Topper and many others. Like millions of other kids of the time, I received the annuals every Christmas and re-read them for many, many years.
As one of the comments in the link provided says, could the cost be part of the problem? Why not go back to simple old-fashioned cheap newsprint like they used to and sell it for 50p?

Wonder if some of the strips will be picked up by papers maybe? It is nostalgic, but all these mags feel like they belong to a bygone era.
-
It's going to go online apparently as an e-comic or something instead.

It's not right, having it online!
But the images and the jokes will probably go on. It's sad in many ways, but comics like The Dandy and Topper are stuck because of the urge to modernise and update the brand. Should they stick with what they were doing or change to try and capture a new audience?
Maybe it's just that their time is over. :(

Magazines subscriptions on the iPad.
That's the way to go!

It's rather ironic that there's a caption at the top of the present issue saying "Always keep a Dandy handy", and another further down effectively saying "After next issue you won't be able to".
