History during Season 14

I will be using this thread to post about what was going on during the time that Season 14 was on the air. I will be updating it with each story that we look at.

Please, feel free to contribute with your own memories or events that you think are significant that you think I might've missed.

So, without further ado, significant events during September 1976, while The Masque of Mandragora was on air:

3rd Sept (day before Masque was broadcast) - The Viking 2 spacecraft lands on Utopia Planetia, taking the first close-up colour photographs of Mars.

9th Sept - Chairman Mao Zedong of the People's Republic of China dies.

17th Sept - Space Shuttle Enterprise is rolled out of a hanger in Palmdale, California.

21st Sept - Orlando Letelier is assassinated by agents of Chilean Dictator, General Pinochet, in Washington D.C.
