So does anyone know what happened to aunty Pauline then...I gather she's snuffed it but do we know how and who did it?

I should imagine that almost certainly she banged her head when she fell over after being slapped by Sonia, and there was some sort of internal bleeding which led to her collapsing some time later. We noticed she was staggering and holding her head as she exited the house just before.

It was mentioned that she'd died from a brain haemorrhage (OK, I'm pretty good at spelling if I say so myself, but that's one word I can't do!). Sonia has known all along that her slap caused it.

So, Sonia's a killer slapper then?

I'm sure that's how Pauline would have described her!

Must admit that the bit with Max and Stacey plotting to meet secretly reminded me more of Howard and Marina in Last of the Summer Wine than anything else...

It must be getting on for a year since i finally gave up on EE.
I can't see me ever going back now. I've caught the odd snippet here & there, but seen nothing to tempt me back.

Nah, i'll stick with Corrie. It's a far more entertaining balance of drama & comedy. EE makes me feel like slashing my wrists!

There is that, i suppose!
But you never get characters like Norris, Roy, or Cilla, or inumerable others in EE. They're all so damn dull in EE!
I think EE has had some fine drama & storylines over the years. The last actor that i thought was really brilliant in it was Jessie Wallace. She was awesome during Kat Slater's sexual abuse past coming back to haunt her when Charlie's brother came into it.
I suppose my tastes have changed, because i used to find Corrie a bit too twee, but now i really like it. I watch it more for the comedy than anything though. It's always present, even in the serious episodes there's something that one of the characters will say or do that'll have you in stitches.

EE is very pretentious, and thinks we want long lingering scenes of two people shouting at each other all the time. One of the things I like about "Coronation Street" is that they don't trivialise tragedy, but they do show that life goes on. When Fred died, we clearly saw how much it upset Audrey and others, but after it had been dealt with, the characters got on with their lives and already Audrey has found herself drawn to someone else, while restoring friendships with her neighbours. If it were Enders, they'd still be banging on about it and having scenes where people symbolically smash framed pictures and discuss their feelings at length.

That illustrates the differences in the two soaps very well.
The other thing is that EE deliberately tries to do whole comic episodes, (usually a trip abroad or something) & whilst they have their moments, it all seems a bit too contrived to make the audience laugh. Whereas Corrie tends to have a continual balance of comedy & drama, so the funny bits usually work well as light relief, rather than trying to gear us up to a whole episode of comedy just every so often.Last edited by Wayne; 5th Jan 2007 at 1:24 PM.

And Corrie has better women! Lovely, fiesty, brassy Northern women who will stride out into the street in their dressing gowns and grab your hair if you nick their hubby!

I'm sure Jonno will love all this EE bashing.
Mind you, At least EE can boast giving Daniela Denby-Ashe to the world.

Another 'Bad Girl' joins 'EastEnders'
Friday, January 5 2007, 13:57 GMT
By Kris Green, Soaps Editor
Former Larkhall actress Kika Mirylees has landed a role in EastEnders.
The 47-year-old actress - who played Bad Girls' inmate Julie Johnston for seven years before the show was axed - is to appear in Walford as Hazel Hobbs, mother to Garry (Ricky Groves).
Hazel will first appear on screen in April when her son attends her wedding. She had plenty of boyfriends when Garry was growing up and she's heading to Albert Square for more.
Of her new role, Kika said: "EastEnders is a programme I watch a lot. I think it will be great fun. The character I am playing is a good laugh which makes a change."
Kika follows in the footsteps of former co-star Linda Henry, whose character, Shirley Wicks, decended on the Square earlier this week, while Victoria Alcock - who played Kika's on-screen best friend Julie Saunders - makes a guest-appearance in The Bill next Wednesday.

I watch Eastenders on and off and Friday nights was very good. Loving the Pauline, Sonia and Martin storyline. Eastenders is still the best of all the soaps out there and the only one worth catching.

I'm oddly glad because I can't stand the character - not even good in a "love to hate" sort of way, he just loves himself. It's another blatant attempt to do another "bad boy" in the style of Dennis Rickman.

I have to say, I think he's OK.
When Ruby was snivvelling all over him and he was raising his eyes I thought it was quite funny.

I see from last night's episode we have another demonstration of how to prolong a misunderstanding between two characters by having one of them say 'if you just let me explain' rather than actually explaining....

No EastEnders increase 'for now'
The BBC has refused to rule out a fifth episode each week for long-running soap EastEnders, but says it will not change the scheduling in the near future.
The Sun reported that the extra show was being considered to bring EastEnders in line with Coronation Street, seen five times a week on ITV1.
"There are no imminent plans to increase the number of episodes," a BBC spokesman said.
"However, we are constantly examining our schedules for possibilities."
He added: "At any one time, a whole host of options are under consideration for BBC One."
EastEnders is currently seen on BBC One every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with an omnibus on Sunday.
Coronation Street has a double bill each Monday, with further episodes on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Does EE still do well in the ratings?
I have to say that it doesn't exist for me anymore. It's not even on the radar.
