Default Kylie Minogue in the Voyage of the Damned

First mentioned during the Sunday newspaper reviews late last night on Radio Five Live.

Now it's on the News of the World site:

WHO should be so lucky? The Doctor, that's Who.

Because we can reveal pop princess Kylie Minogue will be joining the timelord for his Christmas special.

The Aussie star will play a sexy cyberwoman out to snare The Doctor, played by David Tennant.

A BBC insider said: "Kylie jumped at the chance to be in the show and is really looking forward to acting again.

"She is flattered to be asked to be in such a classic TV show.

"The Doctor Who team are delighted they've got someone as sexy and high profile as Kylie to ensure they win the annual ratings battle with ITV."

Kylie was persuaded to take the role by best friend and stylist Will Baker, who designed the silver spacesuit she wore for her 2002 Fever tour.

Will, the owner of a life-sized Dalek, suggested to his friend sriptwriter Russell T. Davies that she'd be perfect for the festive special, which is being filmed in July.

The show spokesman added: "Russell is just putting the finishing touches to the episode and it will be TV dynamite."

Russell, who has met Kylie to discuss the part, said: "I imagined she'd be booked up for the next two years."

Kylie won't be the first star making a guest appearance on the show. Peter Kay, Ardal O'Hanlon, Zoe Wanamaker and Catherine Tate have all turned up with the time lord.
Could be true or it could be a Polly Graham classic!

    "EXTERMINOGUE!! EXTERMINOGUE!!"

It's too bonkers for the Press Coverage thread.

Edited to add: Just noticed that the article seems to quote RTD!!

It would be interesting if it's true, but I can't for a minute believe they're looking to cast "a sexy cyberwoman" - how would that work exactly?

We had Britney rumours a few months ago and David Beckham back in 2005. That was Betty Swallocks.

It would be lovely if true but I don't think Kylie has done any acting for at least 5 years, then again she might well have her new album out in time for christmas and any publicity is good publicity.

Maybe this is a confused story based on the Cybermen dancers and Doctor Who clips from her recent tour?

We shall see, yes we shall see.

They should bring back Azal, and call the episode Better The Devil You Know.

    You know.

    It makes sense.

I know a song called Better The Devil. And it's not by Kylie.

It's by Sonia Evans, panto queen.

Doctor Who executive producer and chief writer Russell T Davies has dismissed the rumour spread by several media sources this week that Australian pop singer and actress Kylie Minogue was to appear in the 2007 Christmas special of the show. Speaking to the BBC's weekly in-house magazine Ariel, Davies has rubbished the suggestion.

"Don't be stupid," he told the publication. "I haven't even written the script yet, and a woman like that is booked up two years in advance."
    Least he's honest.

Funny how Polly Graham mis-interpreted it in her story:

Russell, who has met Kylie to discuss the part, said: "I imagined she'd be booked up for the next two years."
    Daft cow.

So I wonder why RTD said it was rubbish in the interal BBC magazine? It's all confusing.

He said that he hadn't written it yet and Kylie was bound to be booked up years in advance, didn't he?

    It's a classic RTD denial!

The InStyle magazine story has been picked up by The Sun/Mirror as well:

Yes heaven forbid Doctor Who should ever get gay. It's such a hetero show.

I've met his grammar, she's nicer than he is.

Note the words in capitals; has he caught something off someone...?

First thing I thought when I read the post was that if every bit of gay input had been taken out of the show, we'd probably only have a handfull of stories left.

Also, what the hell's Kylie got to do with being gay? Going by her tack record, she's straight, and most straight blokes were in awe of her arse over the years.

This is true, I love her arse, but she's also a gay icon.

Woody Allen ("Woody Alien") playing Einstein in the Christmas Special, according to The Sun:

Or they might've got confused with this story.

    Who's up next?

    I'll go for Cameron Diaz.
