Default Hi-De-Hi stage show for 2010

Oddest story I've heard for ages!

Builders working at the home of former Hi-De-Hi star Barry Howard found a Second World War incendiary device hidden above his bedroom. Workers removing a chimney breast at his flat in Poole, Dorset, dislodged the ten-inch device on Tuesday.

Mr Howard, 69, who played ballroom dancer Barry Stuart-Hargreaves, said he must have been unknowingly sleeping under the bomb for the past 20 years. The dormant device, marked 1942, was taken away by a bomb disposal team.

Mr Howard, of Haydon Road, Branksome Park, told the BBC: "I had been sleeping under it for 20 years, and it had probably been there for 65. I think it may have been lodged in the chimney breast but I have no way of knowing what it was doing there. It just dropped down onto the floor. When the emergency services arrived, they put it on a plank and carried it out into the garden and put an upturned bucket over it. They even put a cordon up. I felt like running round Westbourne shouting 'Don't panic! Don't panic!'"

Mr Howard starred in the BBC sitcom, which was set at a 1950s holiday camp, for six series.

I read that story too, it just made me laugh - particularly his comment about wanting to run around saying "Don't Panic!"

I thought he was dead, and that's why they recast him in Hi-De-Hi!

However charming this story is, I suspect news out of nothing. Surely if it was really a bomb they wouldn't have carried it out into the garden on a plank and put a bucket over it?!

I think you have too much faith in our country's emergency services!

Mr Howard, of Haydon Road, Branksome Park
Now we've got his address we could go and stalk him. Tis just a shame that whenever they do a story on Drew Barrymore that they don't give that level of detail away too!

According to the new issue of Shortlist magazine, Barry Howard is going to be reprising his role of Barry Stuart-Hargreaves for a stage production of Hi-De-Hi! in 2010... I expect it will be Calibre Productions (the people behind the 'Allo 'Allo, Dad's Army and Porridge shows).

We quite enjoyed the "Dad's Army" and "Allo Allo Allo" ones so it might be good. I hope Su is in reception as they say.

Cheek. I was Geoffrey Fairbrother which was great because I was really nervous so I hardly had to act.
