I was listening to another version of those stories a couple of weekends ago, funnily enough - a US radio production with John Geilgud as Holmes, Ralph Richardson as Watson and Orson Welles as Moriarty.

Finished this on Friday, very enjoyable but not for newbies to Dark Shadows.
For first timers I recommend searching out the recent Big Finish podcast introducing Dark Shadows and featuring about half of the first CD as an extra

    About to start...

Dark Shadows - Angelique's Descent Part II: Betrayal

Finished this off this afternoon (did I mention each part is 2 CDs long so these were a worthwhile investment of a tenner).
I really enjoyed it but anyone wanting to go to next year's Tim Burton film of Dark Shadows (starring Eva Green as Angelique and Johnny Depp as Barnabas) will have some of the origin story of the two protagonists spoiled for them by listening to this.

Sherlock Holmes: The Reification of Hans Gerber - Just finished the first CD. Briggs and Earl are astonishingly good as Holmes and Watson, as usual.

Just finished this off. Great stuff. And the trailer for The Hound of the Baskervilles is awesome.

Just won an auction for the Red Dwarf Radio Shows CDs on ebay!
Absolutely delighted as the first volume based on the novel Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers is universally out of stock.

I'm so glad you suggested the idea otherwise I'd never have realised that the first volume had disappeared from sale. I'd had them both in my amazon shopping basket for about a year and almost forgotten about them so had no idea why the first volume is no longer available. The second volume based on the Better Than Life novel is still purchasable from most retailers which is a bit odd. If it had come to it I would've bought that on its own but thankfully I managed to win the pair for £20 less than my maximum bid so am quite chuffed.

Just listened on iplayer from Radio 4Extra to the first episode of The Midnight Folk which was the first John Masefield book to feature young Kay Harker and the evil Abner Brown, the sequel to which was of course The Box of Delights.

Just finished listening to the second and part of The Midnight Folk, enjoyable stuff and certainly provides an interesting perspective on The Box of Delights. It's on BBC Radio iplayer for another few days if anyone's interested

I listened to D.N.A reading his HHGTTG books in the last few weeks & I have now moved on to the radio plays of the same.

Made a start on the latest Sherlock Holmes release from Big Finish - appropriately in advance of this coming Sunday's Sherlock it is-
    The Hound of the Baskervilles

As ever Richard Earl is super as Watson. Martin Freeman take note!

I listened to a very bizarre Doctor Who spoof, Dr Bruce this morning. If you're quick you can still catch it on the iPlayer under 15 minute musicals. It wasn't very good, but I couldn't stop listening!

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Finally caught up with the latest Big Finish Sherlock Holmes play - The Tangled Skein - great fun but even more rewarding if you've heard the previous release - The Hound of the Baskervilles (or indeed ever read the original version) first.
Only minor criticism is that all the women (none of whom appear in more than one scene each) are played by the same actress doing different voices.

I don't think it's online any more but the recent final series of Plantagenet on Radio 4 was rather super - culminating, of course with Richard III -The Three Brothers - really reinvigorated my longtime interest all things Shakespearean and Ricardian

Dark Shadows - Kingdom of the Dead Part One featuring several of the original TV cast and guest starring the wonderful David Warner!
( none of this Johnny Depp comedy rubbish! )

Stayed late (well for me 5.45 is pretty late leaving) in the office last night and polished off Dark Shadows - Kingdom of the Dead Part Two - intriguing stuff but you do need to have some familiarity with the characters to follow this. I recommend starting with the original full cast audio "The House of Despair".

And so ends Dark Shadows - Kingdom of the Dead Part Three with the stage set for the final confrontation between the surviving members of the Collins family and an ancient evil...

Finished Dark Shadows - Kingdom of the Dead Part Four - (which some will be relieved to learn is the final part of this saga).

Good, can I take the David Warner disguise off now?
