Si's right, 5%, I got the same e-mail. Although there is a £5 off £30 spend voucher code doing the rounds as well.

No, mine was for a measly 5%! It's an insult these days! I've bought quite a few bits from them as well.

They might as well not have bothered, the only new info was:

The episodes were Transform Decoded from the BBC D3 transmission copies of the original 2" analogue edit masters, then graded and noise reduced by Jonathan Wood at BBC Resources. Picture cleanup was carried out at SVS and sound restoration by Mark Ayres as usual.
I take it Steve Roberts/Paul Vanezis and the like don't actually do any actual restoration work these days, if it is all contracted out to SVS?

Sendit is down to £12.89p now, joint cheapest on-line. I've pre-ordered!

If you do the same, don't forget to go to the PS website, click to the Affiliates page and then order via the PS affiliate link to earn us cash.

Apparently my copy has been dispatched.
Due to the post strike, goodness alone knows when it'll actually arrive.
Good thing I'm not remotely excited about this one!

Yes, our DVD player will be going on strike if we force it to play 'Planet of Evil'.

    It's arrived.
I'm afraid I'm a little underwhelmed. I know I don't like the story very much really, but there's a feeling of seen this all before. The commentary was obviously recorded around the same time as the Key to Time one, as Tom is busy repeating himself all over the place- his eyes are smaller you know than they were.
The documentaries are ok, but nothing very special- the jungle is rightly praised, but the praise for the space ship is something of a surpise, as it's minimalist and too many rather dull corridors I think. Ah well. Hinchliffe and Murray- Leech are a pretty good twosome on location though.

Just not really my cup of tea and certainly nowhere near as exciting for me as the Key to Time set, or even Robot or Survival earlier in the year.

Should have waited for the sales by the sounds of it, Si!

Though I quite like the story, I'm in no hurry to buy this - I've got two boxsets consisting of 8 DVDs to get through yet!

Does nobody else like Planet of Evil? It's not that bad surely?

I'm pleased, but very much surprised, to find there may be another story that Jonno & I actually agree on. Who'd've thunk it?

I don't think it's bad at all, there's great TARDIS landing action in episode four.

It happens occasionally - do you remember that thread on the old PS (I think) where we worked out what we agreed on for likes and dislikes? We found one or two if memory serves...

Oh, I know that Jim likes POE too - a man of good taste!

I think we're all suffering from overkill of DVDs at the moment. It's great they're coming out quickly but "Planet" coming out three weeks after "The Key Of Time" itself hot on the heels of "The Time Warrior" is all a bit too much.

well I can't see any let up in the rate they are coming out is would seem that 2/entertain are hell bent on getting every thing released as quickly as they can.

While I've been skimming through all most of Tom's stories, I decided to miss out 'Planet Of Evil', partly because it was shortly to be released on DVD, and partly because, despite really wanting to like it, it's s story that's just never really done it for me. OK, so I've only ever seen ti about two or three times, but, I don't know, there's just so much that doesn't quite work.

However, I've decided to give it a chance and reassess it, and so, I've 'treated' myself and ordered it just now. I'll give you my thoughts when I receive it.

In the meantime, I'm getting in the spirit of things, and celebrating its release with my new avatar and sig.

I hope you enjoy it, Dave. For the record, I think it tends to be an unfairly-overlooked early Tom, possibly because it doesn't really have a memorable 'hook' to it (that is to say, it's not "the one with the Mummies/that Brain/the giant plants"). But I rather like it, despite the dull-looking spaceship, and despite it being one of the grimmest and most unrelenting stories ever. Tom is superb in it too.
