    Default The B-52s

If I was in a band they would probably be like The B-52s

Not much else to add to that really! I bet Atlanta, Georgia's finest* don't have an album in Ian's book though...

Who loves the 52s? Even those of you who only know THE SONG....and it is a great song.
I noticed they're playing the Lovebox weekender in Victoria Park, London, in July.

Fave songs..."Party out of bounds" ("Who ordered PIZZZAA!!!" ), "6060-842", "Dance this mess around", "Song for a future generation", "Planet Claire", "Rock Lobster", "Roam"........hear them today!

I'm now imagining the name "Planet Skaro" to the tune of "Planet Claire"....

    *apart from the other band...

Flintstones, meet the Flintstones...actually their debut album is there now I look.

My perception of them (as much as I have one) is coloured by the fact that every Friday night during my three years at Bristol, somebody would put 'Love Shack' on the student union jukebox. The soundtrack to three years of Dry Blackthorn and awkwardness...those were the days!

I hate "Love Shack". Just when you think it's over it starts up again.

I pride myself I'm quite musically read, but I've somehow managed never to hear any other B52's song apart from "Love Shack" (and "Meet the Flintstones").

You would know "Roam" if you heard it I'm sure. I quite like that one but I hate Love Shack.

'Tell It Like It T-I-Is' and 'Hot Pants Explosion' are another two top choons.

    You mean 'Rock Lobster'?

Favourite song is 'Give Me Back My Man' (from my favourite album 'Wild Planet'), and me & the g/f often burst into a rendition of 'Wig', when we see a follically-challenged person........ 'Roam' is pretty good too, and I always sort of count R.E.M.'s 'Me In Honey', from 'Out Of Time', which feature one of the girls (Kate Pierson??).

I think I remember Carol's B-52s thread from the old PS!

This reminds me of Homer Simpson's parody of Love Shack...

A glove slap in a little old face will
    Get you satisfaction.
    Glove slap ba-a-beee ...
    (Glove slap, baby)
    Glove slap, baby, glove slap!
Glove slap, I don't take crap!
Glove slap, shut your big yap.

Glove slap, shut your big yap.
(Oooh, glove baby, that's where it's at. Yeah!)
(Glove, baby, give it a... )

There's nought wrong with a bit of B52's - everone should have one of their albums in their collection.

No! That means you've never heard "Planet Claire" or "Rock lobster"! "...Lobster" was a hit in the Uk in 1986 I think, although it was from their 1979 debut. Not sure why it was re-issued. Did it get to no. 12? That sounds about right to me....Both are quite barmy and brilliant anyway.
"Good stuff" was a hit in '92 as well...you might know it, and not..er...know it.

Motion in the ocean (oooooooo ahhhhhhhhhh)

That song is so bloody annoying but somehow also very cool at the same time. I love the guy's voice, it's so cool, he's like Kenneth Williams.

Have we wandered into 'Last Tango In Paris' territory...?

I only really know the obvious B-52s numbers, but they're all quite enjoyable - yes, even THAT song!

I might have to do my Fred Schneider impression at the next PS meet.

Fred Schneider impressions were all the rage when I was in Fifth Year.

Kate Pierson is a favourite of mine too. A very distinctive voice.

My mother has a very distinctive voice but you wouldn't her to start making records.
