Look out for the Amicus anthology classic from 1973 - Vault of Horror, on Monday August 25th at 11.35 on Film 4.
Starring, amongst others: Tom Baker, Denholm Elliot, Curt Jürgens, & Terry Thomas.

A very special screening - a fully-restored version of the 1973 horror anthology film THE VAULT OF HORROR. This classic creepshow comes from the popular Amicus studio, which specialised in film collections of short, sharp shockers with a twist in the tale. Until now, THE VAULT OF HORROR has only been shown on TV and video in a cut version. However, we've given it a new lease of life and returned it to its former gory glory.
    More details here:

I've only just decided to pop up to Braehead later today to have a gander at Davison and Jameson. They're both meant to be at Collectormania Glasgow. I'm a big fan of Jameson's work in River City:

Roy Holder was on Comedy Connections last night, and very bizarrely one of the contestants on Would I Lie To You? was wearing the fifth Doctor's costume, sans celery.

    I've never heard of him!

Richard Briars narrating the Goodies' Snow White 2 in Wallis Towers earlier. And I'm led to believe that Bill and Graeme have been in BF productions. Or are BFs. Or something...

Although it started @19:00 the SciFi channel are showing The Face of Evil at the moment. But after this is The Ark in Space & Revenge of the Cybermen.

It'll be like 1991 all over again with my videos.

Just found this in the Celebrity Favourites section of the Penguin Classics website while idling thereabouts:

    Peter Purves-TV presenter and actor

    The Iliad - Homer

The Iliad is amongst my favourite books. Not, I hasted to add, in the original Greek, but in the Penguin modern translations.
Woe to Priam! Woe to Troy!

One day they might even grow to enjoy them...

Dinah Sheridan and Ronald Allen were in A Night To Remember on BBC2 today.

Watched The Avengers episode Room Without A View last night and spotted Paul Whitsun Jones (The Smugglers) Peter Jeffires (Count Grendel) and Philip Latham (Borusa from The Five Doctors). Peter Arne was also in the episode, he would have appeared in Frontios had he not been found dead at that time.

Sylvester McCoy got a mention on last night's Would I Lie To You? He was referred to as the neighbour to Phil Daniels' neighbour, although it turned out to be a lie. Erm...

I forgot to mention in my previous post that Paul Whitsun Jones utters the tenth doctor's favourite phrase "Allons-y" in that Avengers episode. Lots of Who references in that episode then.

I'm watching The Legacy of Reginald Perrin this week. Amongst the cast is Geoffery Palmer (Silurians/Mutants/Voyage of the Damned) and Tim Preece (Planet of the Daleks).

I've been enjoying the 1975 series of Public Eye starring Alfred Burke (surely one of the best actors anywhere). It's had a load of Who stars in it.
The episode How About It Frank has Stewart Bevan John Hallam and the lovely Mary Tamm.
How About A Cup Of Tea has Richard Hurndall in it as a Catholic Priest.
Philip Madoc features in They All Sound Simple At First, a complex story about disowned family and money lending.
Up and coming episodes has John Woodnut, Tenniel Evans, Ivor Roberts and no doubt quite a few more recognisable faces.
It's surprising the number of non Who faces in this, and other old series I'm watching, that are still working, Diane Keen (Doctors) Maggie Jones (Coronation Street) and Alun Armstrong (New Tricks).
Public Eye is a great series, one I'd recommend anyone on PS to catch up with.

I don't know what the chief Krillitane and Doctor Constantine will think when they find out that Merlin is the Doctor. Really!

We watched an episode from series 4 of Jeeves and Wooster which featured Philip Locke and his glass eye.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

And, of course, Merlin is also Jethro Cane from Midnight.

It also featured Angel Coulby, who had a cameo in 'The Girl In The Fireplace', as Guinevere, and the episode was directed by James Hawes - basically, it's Doctor Who by any other name!!

Today's Grauniad had a booklet about writing comedy with an introduction by Catherine Tate. One piece of good advice generally- if the joke isn't getting laughs after three separate attempts, it isn't the audience, it's you- seems to be quite good for most situations as far as I can see.
