    Interesting news...

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Peter Gabriel has resumed work on his next studio album while juggling an array of other projects.

"There are some (new) things," he told Billboard last Friday in New York. "I've been very good at distraction with some charitable things and some Internet things. But I'm now back in writing mode and I'm very much enjoying that."

Gabriel, however, wouldn't put a timetable on when the as-yet-untitled project would be ready. After all, a decade went by between the release of his last two albums, 1992's "Us" and 2002's "Up." "Autumn. Or spring," he said with a laugh when asked about a potential arrival date. "That usually suffices. In some year."

He did not rule out some kind of collaboration with his ex-Genesis bandmates, who are on the road with a successful reunion tour. There had been talk of presenting the 1974 concept album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" on stage, but Gabriel couldn't commit to clearing his schedule for the time necessary to do so.

"I'm hoping to see the show because I think they're going to do some more European dates, he said. "Nothing is excluded (in terms of a possible reunion). We're still breathing and we don't need to be wheeled onto the stage. But I don't know. It's quite a time commitment to get it sounding right. When WOMAD (Gabriel's world-music festival) started and got into heavy financial trouble, (Genesis) extremely generously agreed to do a benefit with me, performing. I learned then it takes a lot longer than you think to relearn what you think you knew."

Gabriel, who was in New York for the Audio Engineering Society convention, has recently been focusing on the launch of TheElders.org, which aims to create a coalition of veteran leaders to inspire a younger generation to help solve global issues. In conjunction, Gabriel is hoping to organize a concert timed to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in December 2008. "With any luck it will be the most significant bands of the new generation," he said. "I hope we can make it happen."
    More UK dates, I hope!

This might make the top 10 album chart...

This double album is the result of the hugely successful "Turn It On Again" 2007 European tour. It features the very best performances of 18 tracks across 8 European shows including "Mama" recorded in Dusseldorf, "Throwing It All Away" in Paris and the 10 minute "Domino" performed in front of 500,000 people in Rome. Older Hackett era songs include "Ripples" from Prague and "Carpet Crawlers" from Manchester.

They were absolutely amazing that night though, I'm not surprised they've used that gig. I bet you'll be able to hear me bellowing "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

The album pre-empts the release in February 2008 of "When In Rome - Genesis Live 2007" – the DVD of the complete concert, plus full length documentary and behind the scenes footage filmed on the road.

    A must-have, eh?

    I'm speechless:

    NEW LAMB VIDEO FOOTAGE!

In Genesis fandom, this is the equivalent of The Tenth Planet episode four.

That is kind of disturbing. It needs to be lost again!

A whole world of WTF came out my mouth as I watched that.

After a break of 15 years, Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford, of super-group Genesis, are back.

This intimate, behind-the-scenes documentary has extraordinary access to the musicians in the run-up to last year's European stadium tour. With the first show in Helsinki only eight months away, Tony, Phil and Mike get together in a rehearsal studio with the rest of the band to see if they can recapture the old magic.

With a £10m stage production and a huge, expectant fan base, the stakes are high. As the countdown begins, the preparations are dogged by technical problems and creative challenges, but there's a lot of merriment, too.

The camera follows the band through design meetings and rehearsals. Backstage and archive clips illustrate their reflections upon Genesis, past and present, their hopes and their frustrations. Phil, in particular, struggles to balance the demands of a musical career as a famous front man with his private life as a dedicated father.

The film is a fascinating insight into these professional, intelligent and likeable men whose lives combine the extraordinary and the everyday.

After the re-formed Genesis found their 2007, 22-date European tour lashed by electric storms, the sun came out for the finale – a free concert open to 500,000 fans in Rome's ancient Circo Massimo. As darkness descends, it's a breathtaking spectacle, with a sweeping, curvaceous stage and huge graphics screens failing to dwarf the sound of a super-group reborn.

It's their first tour since splitting up, 15 years previously, and the fans are not to be disappointed. The band serves up plenty of old favourites, including Land Of Confusion, No Son Of Mine, Follow You, Follow Me, and the band's first charting single in 1973, I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe).
I've probably missed Pip posting this elsewhere on PS!?

Didn't know about that, cheers James

Nice to see them showing them, athough it's clear they've edited the programmes for the telly - the documentary is 110mins on the forthcoming DVD (rather than 60) and the concert is 150mins on DVD (rather than 90 on telly). I bet they cut out the bloody Cage Medley and leave in Throwing It All Away & Invisible Touch.

Anyway, I'm going to see the documentary in full at the cinema a few days before, in lovely HD.

Hmm, does this Genesis Night hold the threat of new material? I wonder.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Nothing that won't be on the DVD. Phil "Gene Hunt" Glenister is hosting the Q&A that will be broadcast to Odeon cinemas next month - the Guv's a big Genesis fan

Saw the first twenty minutes or so (was too tired to watch all of it) and it looked a hell of a concert. Might get the DVD in the future.

You can't, so it's best you end it all now.

Alternatively you can ease the pain by getting the free Genesis CD in this Sunday's Daily Mail - tracks chosen by Tony Banks.

The down side is that you have to buy the Daily Mail.

Or if you're feeling lucky (punk) you can slip the CD into your pocket. Tony Banks wouldn't mind.

Hell must have finally frozen over - Genesis get recognition SHOCKER!

Genesis with the MOJO Lifetime Achievement Award during the Mojo Honours List award ceremony at The Brewery, east London. Rock band Genesis have sold over 150 million albums worldwide - lead singer Phil Collins revealed the secret of his career was down to "a lot of luck". He added: "I'm getting hungry to write."
A new Genesis album would be cool and awesome. 11/10.

I thought it was you who'd closed it.

Yes - that does look an amazing boxset, even I'm quite tempted. The only problem with boxsets are though I rip them to MP3, and never look at them again!
