Benny: The Grel Escape
True fact : I bought this on a whim in Forbidden Planet Cambridge, and... um... it's really odd.
Strange fact : Sometimes I find that I enjoy an audio more when I think back on it than I did at the time. Lots of the bits of this one worked really well.
Bad fact : But it wasn't quite as funny as I was hoping.
Good fact : I did like the Grel! The Doctor's almost as clever as I am!

This one is VERY odd. The premise wasn't too bad but it just seemed oddly put together. I've not listened to it for a while & I really should. But for now it must remain ODD in my opinion.

I think I'd agree - it's an amusing enough idea, and lots of the bits work, but somehow the whole is a little disappointing.

I like Lisa Bowerman, I like Bernice Summerfield and I've read and liked a couple of Benny short story collections. But I've tried so many times to get into the audio stories without any success.
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?
If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

Bowerman is fab. Despite not having heard any since Season 5, i like a lot of the Benny stuff.
But not this one.

This one is up next for us when we finally get round to listening to the Bennys again.
That was helpful wasn't it?

Bernice Summerfield and the Disection of Audio
Question - Are the Grel as entertaining in this as they were in 'Oh No It Isn't'?
Fact - No they aren't!
Question - Why?
Fact - They aren't as daft
Fact - The Grel are a piece of SF whimsy
Question - Why don't the more light hearted BF Audios go down as well?
Fact - I don't know, I generally love the funnies!
THE GLORY OF THE GREL, THE GLORY OF THE GREL, THE GLORY OF THE GREL, THE GLORY OF THE GREL, THE GLORY OF THE GREL, THE GLORY OF THE GREL!One Day, I shall come back, Yes, I shall come back,
Until them, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties, Just go forward in all your beliefs,
and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine!
