Default The STAR WARS Holiday Special 1978

The first TV spin off from the original 'Star Wars', and the first two hours of 'Star Wars' made after the first cinema film, two years before "The Empire strikes back".
And do you know what? ...it's gloriously shit! Luke Skywalker looks like he's on acid! Han Solo stops being cool and gets mushy with Chewie's family! The Imperials dig Jefferson Starship! It has the most ineffectual Stormtrooper ever! The performances make the big screen trilogy look like method acting! Princess Leia SINGS for freaks sake!!! This is comedy GOLD!

A big kitsch piece of crap that cost $1m in 1978, which in today's money is probably too much money to think about spending on a bad idea. George Lucas has , of course, disowned his first sequel completely.

Here's an abridged version off Youtube!

I have been promised a DVD of this next time I see m'colleague. He says much the same as the above. In many ways I can't wait.
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?

If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

I thought the rumour was that Lucasfilm had had it burned, in a thorough, never-to-be-seen-again, Marco Polo sort of way? Doesn't it feature the first ever sighting of Boba Fett in a cartoon, or something (or am I now starting to include dreams I had now under the heading of actual facts)?

Yes! Boba Fett does make his screen debut in a cartoon!

Darth Vader is also in it as well! The shame!

I can really see why Lucas disowned it, it's appalling...I want to see it all.

"Obi-Wan never told you what happened to the 1978 Holiday special!"- Vader

"He told me enough! He told me it was shit."- Luke

"No, Luke, it was really shit"

    "NOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

"Search your feelings, Luke. You know you appeared in it and made an arse of yourself. Join me and I'll make sure no one gets to see it again.Together we can retrieve the copy that The Emporer watches for a laugh and bring order to the trilogy! He has forseen this. "

    "You're on, let's burn it!"

It's not as bad as the He-Man Holiday Special when Skeletor turns nice.

But He-Man was always shit so it doesn't matter.
Its great seeing the Star Wars cast caked in make up too. And Carrie Fisher so off her tits that she's happy to sing the theme tune.

But He-Man could've killed Skeletor there and then, while he was being all cheesy.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v6SjJ75-lk

WHY DON'T THEY KILL HIM WHILE THEY HAVE THE CHANCE?!

Not that I've screamed at the screen for him to kill Skeletor, no no.

He famously said that he'd like to track down every copy in existence & destroy them all with a hammer.

I fully expect a dvd release before the year 2010.

ANYTHING has to be better than that! I know one Star Wars fan who looked at me like I said I have just killed everyone she loves by simply saying I wanted to see it. And I still do! (See the special, not kill everyone she loves)

I fully expect a dvd release before the year 2010.
It will have all new CGI effects though, so you won't recognize it.. but don't worry, a few years later they will re-release it with a second dvd that has the original Christmas Special as an extra, although it will be of sub-par quality to current DVD standards.
