Default Friday Poll No 12: TOS vs TNG - The Big One

    It's the BIG one.

The Old. The New (which now is also quite old).

Star Trek: The Original Series ran for 3 years, but changed the way television was made through constant re-runs.

Star Trek: The Next Generation ran for 7 years and changed the way television was made with it's digital effects, characters and story styles.

It's Borg Vs Gorn, Geordi Vs Scotty, McCoy Vs Crusher. Will you the pointy ears, or will you the wrinkled forehead? First mates or Captain-do-it-all? Will you make it so or will you be too busy snogging?

    TOS! TNG! Fight!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I've gone for TNG, as the acting & stories are better.

This is the toughest Friday poll for me so far. I'm so fond of the original series, and the movies which came afterwards, and love the original crew, but then I'm so fond of TNG as well, it's what really got me in to American sci-fi, I remember renting out much of the first season on video before it went out on the beeb.

Both have such great characters (though TNG loses a couple of points for Wesley, Deanna Troi and her annoying Mum), and some fantastically inventive stories. And I just don't know...Hmmmm...But for some reason I'm gonna go for TNG, perhaps just because of the number of quality episodes in the entire run...

When it first came on, I really enjoyed TNG, but oddly enough I just can never be arsed to watch the repeats. It was a great show, no question, but I have to say the original show has a definite something - and on the film front, I would say the TOS films are infinitely superior to the TNG ones. I found "First Contact" to be such a dull film, it really surprised me.

So, I'm voting... for... Captain Kirk and... all who sail on... her. Erm.

TOS - TNG had too many stories based around something going wrong with the ship / holodeck, and Wesley Crusher .

TOS did usually boldly go where no man had gone before

I'm making it so. TNG was my Star Trek. Much as I love TOS, TNG is probably my favourite.

    TOS every time!

Exciting music, colourful sets, the unbeatable Kirk-Spock-McCoy factor, mini-skirts, a bridge with a myriad of flashing lights, to boldly go where no man has gone before..... staple viewing in the 70s given prime time slots on BBC1, TNG was always put on at a geeky hour on BBC2 naturally enough

Oh and almost forgot Scotty... the engines! they cannae take it captain!!...

TOS. Can't stand the Next Generation, I remember finding it incredibly dull, though I love Picard and Worf.

DS9 remains my favourite Trek series of all time, I got series 3 and 4 for my birthday the other week, great stuff

I refuse to answer this one - I love them just as much as each other (although DS9 is the best )

However, having been watching TOS all the way through I might have given it the vote, but I just started just Season 3. How could there have been such a sudden nosedive in quality? I'm 8 episodes in, and there have been 2 I enjoyed, a few which were good, and the rest just dull...
