Alternative Daleks?
I remember back around the time of Series 1 there was an interview with RTD somewhere (probably DWM) about the problems acquiring the rights to use the Daleks. When it looked as though they wouldn't be able to get them they came up with some other monster/enemy to fill their shoes in the Season and when they finally did get the Daleks that this other foe might well be used anyway in the future because it would be a shame not to use them. Any idea what this other foe was and has it actually been used yet? It wasn't just the Cybermen was it?

I did read something once, but can't quite place them. They were going to be a new species though, not another old monster. I don't think they've been used since either.

RTD reveals all in this month's DWM (p28)
Apparently it was the Toclafane - not named then. They were given to Rob Shearman as a concept, and would have turned up for TPOTW. They were almost considered for what was hiding in the Satan Pit as well.

Ah right. I should have known better than to believe the hype about how great they would have been then.
