Default Solo Spice - Vote For Victory!

The girls formerly known as Touch are well and truly right back at us, no R.I.P, not forgetting the days when they were all wannabes. In celebration of this let us forget their group endeavours and pick which single from their solo output was by far and away the best? Each girl has two candidates. Vote vote vote.

Sorry, I meant to pick If That Were Me and On The Horizon, her most popular songs.

Look At Me is probably the worst song I've heard this decade, but at least it was memorable. None of the others ring a bell.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I have voted for Never Be The Same again, since the anthemic Bag It Up is not an option.

    Where's "Home"? It's a fan favourite.

And it's a joyous extended seven minute version that closes her gigs these days. She knows what the fans want!

I would have voted "Lift Me Up" but in it's absence "I Turn To You" just edges out "Let Your Head Go".

What's the fascination with full names anyway, Paul Sonia Ballard?

    No way!

    I think lyrically it's actually very P-Bal.

"Superficial expectations... look at me, you can't take it all because this face is free. Maybe next time use your eyes and look at me. I'm a drama queen if that's your thing baby, I can even do reality."

Geraldine does good lyrics! Though Emma Lee Bunton blames her for the "yellow man in Tumbucktoo" line from Spice Up Your Life.

    Hmmm.

    And wotnot notwotnot.

I'm not much of a one for noticing lyrics half the time. I do genuinely like it though. My fave versions are the the 2 re-mix versions on the CD single! So it gets my vote!

I've always thought it inferior to the three singles that followed it! Sorry!

"Lift Me Up" was always a favourite. It's a gay old number.

Melanie Jayne Chisholm has confirmed on her official website that another single is to be pulled from the multi-stone selling This Time album, but is keeping her choice secret for the moment.

    There's a chance it'll be a radio friendly ballad-lite number.

After much hesitation I gave 12 points to Watford, aka Geraldine Estelle (my nan's name!) Halliwell's "Look At Me".

It's camp, it's silly, it rips of the Propellerhead's featuring Our Shirl but it's also very well structured, refreshingly original (for the Smash Hits crowd) and lyrically intriguing. The video is one of my faves too.

I'd actually have given it to "Northern Star" if it were there.

Or "Gone" by Mrs Becks if it had ever been released.

I went for Mi Chico Latino.

Where was We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight though? Tut tut.

I voted Let Your Head Go - its as good as all the others but no one gives vb any credit these days. If i wasnt going down the charitable route then it would have gone to any of Geri's!

Bunt's C*** has done some good stuff - of those listed, I liked 'What Took You So Long', but I preferred the 60's-style stuff she did, particularly 'Free Me' and the other one - no, not the one about some Spanish bird getting off her tits and talking to grasshoppers, the other one.

Geri's 'Look At Me' is pretty good, and 'Mi Chico Latino' and 'Lift Me Up' have their moments - the former has a pretty good video.

However, in the end, I went for Le Chis's corking 'I Turn To You'.

Although the one she did with Bryan Adams was better.

(Edited, because I just realised the Bunton song I was on about was 'Maybe' - one of the actual options... )

Maybe is a stormer, as is We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight. WNGST is one of my all time fave solo Spice efforts.

I think it's telling at how successful the girls have been, despite how much people put their solo careers down, that people know their own songs enough to have opinions!

I mean comparitavely the All Saints poll would be a thing of death.

Do Me Wrong by Mel Blatt would get my vote though. I.E.A.O.U nothing baby...

'Fantasy' by Appleton rocks like a bastard.

(Hey, you can actually say 'Appleton' on this site! Woo-hoo!)

It's a fact, it's a thing you can't deny, that Melanie Jayne Chisholm's Here It Comes Again was originally sort of recorded by Appleton, who used the same Marius deVries backing track. Fantasy does not sound entirely dissimilar.

    And popcorn.

I voted for "Maybe" in the absence of "Crickets Sing For Anamaria" but "On The Horizon" or "When You're Gone" would have swung it in a different direction.
