    Default Reccomend something fun

With luck I'll be going on holiday at the end of the week.

I'm trying to find a book to take with me. Nothing too epic, just a good fun read.

I'm currently reading Silk and Cyanide, a book about the code maker for SOE in World War 2. A lot of people die in it.

I've kind of got into a rut of late that if I read anything it should be factual to expand my knowledge. Hence the last fiction I read was nineteen eighty four in February 2006. And as you can imagine that was a barrel of laughs.

I bought the last Harry Potter the day it came out, but I can't really be bothered. Besides I'm not prepared to pay the excess baggage it'll cost to put the tome in my luggage!

    Recommendations anyone?

Try The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin, I Robot or Foundation by Isaac Asimov or The Toyminator by Robert Rankin.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I recommend Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency or The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. Both are fantastic for a holiday.

    Thanks Steve

Been trying to browse through Amazon - I'm tempted by "Unrequited Love: On Stalking and Being Stalked - A Tale of Obsessive Passion"

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Unrequited-L...666433&sr=1-93

I'll try to look up your suggestions instead.

Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve. Its a sci-fi adventure story thats light but also has a great emotional edge and brilliant characters.
Or Stardust by Neil Gaiman. An adult fairy story .

I suggest the marvellous Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death.

Ever read any of the books in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, or his two related Nursery Crime stories? Good fun.

If I'd known you needed some, I'd have brought Tony Hawks's "Round Ireland With A Fridge" and/or Jerome K Jerome's "Three Men In A Boat" to the last meet up for you to take. Those at least are my immediate recommendations.

I don't think I have ever heard from anyone claiming to have read Jim Butcher's Fantasy/Mystery series The Dresden Files and not liked them. You might give them a try if you have never read them. The first book in the series is 'Storm Front'.

I keep it in the loo. Thoroughly absorbing.

I hope you don't have to return it to the library...

Of course I do! I have a few library books in the toilet, if I'm there for the duration.

Ahh.. I see. I thought perhaps the book wasn't very good and you were making a clever joke with a play on words.... the loo... absorbing... nevermind.

    There's eight so far:

    1. The Spaceship Graveyard
    2. Alien Arena
    3. The Time Crocodile
    4. The Corinthian Project
    5. The Crystal Snare
    6. War of the Robots
    7. Dark Planet
    8. The Haunted Wagon Train

They're rather fun if you're 8 or 22 years old.

I think I'd buy that just for the wonderful cover.

Do you think they'll squeak by for a 10 year old girl?
