National TV Awards 2008: Two for Who?
Doctor Who has picked up three nominations at the National TV Awards for the third consecutive year.
The hit show faces competition from Life On Mars, The Bill and Shameless in the Most Popular Drama category.
David Tennant has been shortlisted for Most Popular Actor for the third time, where he will compete against Coronation Street's Anthony Cotton, Hollyoaks' James Sutton and EastEnders' Charlie Clements.
Co-star Freema Agyeman will take on Corrie's Sue Cleaver as well as Lacey Turner and Kara Tointon from EastEnders for Most Popular Actress, which has been won by Billie Piper for the last two years.
Any Dream Will Do, Dancing on Ice, Strictly Come Dancing, Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor will battle for the new Best Talent Show gong.
ITV and BBC have each received 18 nominations for the awards, which are voted for by the public. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on October 31.
Host Trevor McDonald said: "It has been a controversial year for the TV industry which has rarely been out of the news, but the National Television Awards are a celebration of TV programming at its most popular. The variety of nominees this year shows the remarkable range and diversity of the programmes we all watch."

Aren't these awards just a depressingly shallow waste of time? Awards used to celebrate the "best" of things but now we're giving prizes for the most popular programmes. Has Britain become an American high school? If so, why has no one pointed me in the direction of the changing rooms?
And Trevor McDonald, bless him, has pissed away what little shreds of credibility he had left by claiming "the variety of nominees this year shows the remarkable range and diversity of the programmes we all watch". That would explain why almost all the acting nominations come from soaps. Because you don't get much more diverse than soap operas set in Liverpool, Manchester and London.
As for the factual category, when Top Gear is the most intelligent show nominated you know you're in trouble. Just because it encourages people to stop dragging their knuckles and start using them to drive too quickly doesn't make it The World at War.
Frankly, Doctor Who should be ashamed to be part of such squalid nonsense.Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?
If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

The eleventh annual Brenty Four serial is another Planet Skaro exclusive. A new episode each day until Christmas in the Brenty Four-um.

Why? Because websites and forums got people to vote for Doctor Who, probably several times? That proves nothing except that Doctor Who has a more organised fanbase than the soaps. It's hardly being honoured by your peers.
David Tennant will win, Freema won't win because the public don't like her and Doctor Who will beat off its eclectic opposition.
David Tennant will win many awards in his career and whatever piece of plastic he gets from the sponsors of these awards will go in a box at the back of a cupboard with whatever is the second least prestigious trophy on top of it.Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?
If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

Pity the Freema. Sat on by Racey Lacey Knickers Turner.
We didn't watch the show but I did catch Tennant's speech and near falling over. Bless hit cottons. It was sweet that he dedicated the award to his mother.

Looking good.
The Backstage/Aftershow stuff with Jack 'n' Kelly on ITV2 was just about as bad as Sam 'n' Mick at the 1989 Brit Awards!
The whole Osbourne clan should be shot.
At least Cotton didn't win!Last edited by Milky Tears; 1st Nov 2007 at 1:10 AM.

when you consider how embarrassing you felt to be a Doctor Who, fan back in the 1980's and how bad people considered the programm to be it dose give me a warm feeling of smug satisfaction at all these awards we are now constantly winning.

Lets keep a bit of perspective here ... Ant and Dec were given awards for their contribution.
Do you think that's deserved? Ring our hotline now, calls cost £10 a minute, and may not even be counted ...
