Default SJS: Series 2 - Confirmed!

    Looking hopeful...

Elisabeth Sladen has revealed that plans are underway for a second season of The Sarah Jane Adventures, although the BBC has yet to formally commission one.

"I know that they're writing and planning it," Sladen told LastBroadcast.co.uk, "but as always with these things they've not had the green light yet, but it all looks very hopeful I think. [The BBC] seem pleased with how it's done - it's such a clever format."

Sladen also addressed the absence of K-9 in the The Sarah Jane Adventures, after the robot dog appeared alongside her in the Doctor Who episode 'School Reunion' last year: "I can understand why he's not in the series - he's a very inanimate object [and] there's not a lot you can do with him. I think if he was to be in the show he'd definitely have to have an update!"
Nothing to do with greedy rightsholders then?

I think K9 could easily do the job the very silly Mr Smith is doing. It wouldn't be too difficult to just have K9 confined to Sarah's house and being there to give advice and information when required. He's more loveable than Mr Smith too.

A second series would be a very good thing. I'm enjoying this one immensely!

    Isn't K9 in a cupboard/vortex doing something or other?

Mr Smith is probably what they hurriedly gave all K9's lines to when they realised he wasn't going to be available.

I have to say I think that Mr Smith probably works better in the context of the series than K-9 would.

That said it's a shame they saved him in School Reunion just to consign him to the cupboard.

Well if it's coming back, and there's no reason why it shouldn't, it needs an injection of more drama. The family stuff slows it down. Maria's Mum ain't no Jackie Tyler.

Well yeah, but what I mean is her storyline isn't as funny as Jackie's.

At least Series Two has now been confirmed:

Gardener will also continue to executive produce the next runs of Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures before she leaves BBC Wales.

    Torchwood series three?
I wouldn't take that as what's being implied. The next run of Torchwood is S2, which is technically next year as well as next month, in the way that the next run of Who will be S4.

    Not commisioned yet...

A second season of The Sarah Jane Adventures has yet to be commissioned, according to the CBBC show's creator Russell T Davies.

"We hope it's coming back, we don't know for definite," he told Newsround. "We're preparing for it. We're writing scripts. Liz [Sladen] is very excited, we're raring to go. So hope and pray that it does return, because I love that show and I think it should run and run."

Launched in the Autumn, the Doctor Who spin-off reaped record ratings for the CBBC channel with first-run episodes, as well as widespread critical acclaim.

"I could not be more pleased by the success of The Sarah Jane Adventures," added Davies, "because frankly it's marvellous, isn't it?"

It'd be a real puzzler if it wasn't but then stranger things have happened and it can't be a cheap series...

Is that the new "And popcorn" P-Bal? Should I start saying it in conversation?

Excuse the newbie with the silly question... but why is Sarah Jane Adventures being shortened to SJS?

    24 episodes!!

    According to SFX:

Also confirms that Sladen is in Series 4. Looks like those tabloid rumours could be true.

Imagine if they worked their way up to doing 52 a year for the next series. So it was literally on every week. Forever.
