Default Shine On You Crazy Pink Floyd Thread

The Pink Floyd Story is to be told in a special 40th anniversary documentary on BBC1 tonight. (Weds 12th Dec)

'Which One's Pink?' sees interviews with the four surviving members Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason - together tracing their careers from their debut album Piper At The Gates of Dawn to reuniting at Live8.

The documentary which goes out at 10.45pm tonight, will also feature extended archive footage of the band, some of which has never been braoadcast before.

Meanwhile, Pink Floyd have also just released their entire studio album collection in a 16CD boxset
Is anyone going to be tuning in to see the new footage? There seems to be a lot of Pink Floyd rumblings at the moment, what with the re-release of Piper At The Gates of Dawn and this advert for the Simpsons movie:

And with Led Zeppelin making more money than Germany at the moment, there may even be talk of a reunion and tour of some sort or other. I'd love to see Pink Floyd, but I think I missed my chance when they played Earls Court after the Division Bell, which was years ago, but a reasonable price. I fear £120 tickets - should it ever happen!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I shall definitely be taping that documentary (God, taping sounds so old-fashioned these days!)

I was lucky enough to catch Pink Floyd on their last tour, at their last concert at Earl's Court in October 1994. It was truly phenomenal, but I don't think we'll ever see the likes again. Then again, who'd have thought we'd ever see Roger Waters playing with them again, at Live 8!? If I'd known that that was really going to happen (I seriously doubted it when it was rumoured) I'd have texted and texted until my fingers bled to have got tickets!

However, a one-off appearance is one thing, a tour is another, even though Richard Wright said in the recent Radio 2 documentary that he'd love to tour with the band again. If it did happen, I doubt Waters would appear with them again, and I imagine there would only be a handful of dates, as in the case of Genesis this year, and, as Steve says, tickets would probably cost upwards of £100!

    Pigs might fly...

Incidentally, good thread, about time we had a new Floyd thread - it might even inspire me to get my long-rumoured Time Team going...

Expect Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason to have reformed, recorded a new album, toured the universe, married and had each other's children before that happens, though!

Would I get lynched if I said out loud that I've not heard any Pink Floyd other than Brick in the Wall?

I'm trying to give up starting "too wide/too early" threads.

You don't expect me to start it that soon, do you!? Come on!!!

No, really, after watching that excellent documentary the other night, I've really got the bug to listen to Floyd again - I've hardly heard any of their stuff over the past year or so, waiting to start that blessed thread with fresh ears! What a fool!

I'll make a promise to start it in the new year, and shortly I'll post how I intend to format it (believe me, it's going to cover practically everything!) Steve, rather than starting another Pink Floyd thread, would you mind if I used this one to do the Time Team?
