The Unborn (2009)
A fairly generic, but not unenjoyable supernatural thriller starring Odette Yustman & Gary Oldman.
The long legged Yustman who adorns the promotional images for this film in her white knickers, in an obvious marketing ploy, (hey it worked!) plays a young woman who becomes involved in a nightmare fight against the spirit of her unborn twin brother, who was strangled by her umbilical cord in the mother's womb.
It all has a slightly familiar feel to it. It comes across as influenced by J-Horror with a bit of 'The Exorcist' thrown in, but it maintains a good spooky atmosphere, Yustman & Oldman, who plays a Rabbi who ends up being a sort of jewish Father Merrin, both play their respective parts quite well.
All in all, nothing outstanding, but worth a watch. 7/10
If only for:
Next up for me is Histoires Extraordinaires (1968). A French horror/thriller anthology of 3 Poe based stories directed in turn by Federico Fellini, Louis Malle, & Roger Vadim.
Never seen it before, but i'm not so much attracted by the names of such famous directors, as the fact that the film stars (amongst others) Jane Fonda, & Brigitte Bardot. (Lucky old Vadim, eh?)Last edited by Wayne; 14th Jul 2009 at 3:16 PM. Reason: Oldman!

I watched a cracking horror film from 2007 on Bravo last night - 30 Days of Night, starring Josh Hartnett. It involved a town in Alaska which spends a whole month without sun as it's so far north, and gets invaded by vampires who promptly massacre most of the town, bar a handful who, somewhat implausibly, hide out in the town for those 30 days without being found by the vamps!
The vamps are very nasty and vicious and quite nicely are quite mysterious - we don't know any of their background or where they come from. They don't speak English and are subtitled.
There were quite a few tense and scary moments and overall had quite a grim, dark tone, including the final scene. Recommended for vampire films - anyone else seen it? 8/10.

Aye, I saw it a while back, I think a few of us chatted about it in the first incarnation of this thread and pretty much everyone liked it. I love how claustrophobic it is, and their take on vampires, for too long they've become either a bit silly or anti-heroes, so it was nice to see them as full on blood thirsty killers again!

I bought it on a whim a while back on Blu Ray as it was going cheap - I enjoyed it very much, and it is genuinely scary which is always a plus. As is Josh Hartnett! It's added to my collection now which is a high honour indeed.

I came across this list of films which featured in the 1970s BBC2 horror bills along with an interesting series of articles on the subject here
Having grown up with this series, which was basically my introduction to all those great Hammer and Universal flicks, among others, I found these to be a fascinating read.
If the BBC was ever to revive the Horror Double Bill format for late Saturday nights (unlikely though it may be!), what would your suggestions be for film pairings?
