I liked MEAT if only for the "have you ever ate alien meat ?" conversation
But it was one of those episodes that was more about their relationships, Jack/Gwen and Tosh/Owen (oh my God if Tosh get's any cuter !!)
The turd like alien whale was just an aside for that.

I enjoyed that epsiode. It wasn't as good as the previous two have been, but was still very enjoyable and a good watch. It's nice to see Rhys finally leant about Gwen's job, and I thought that Gwen's decision at the end not to give him the drug was a wise decision on her part- all that would have happened if they hadn't done that would be an increase in guilty feelings from Gwen and them having to repeat this episode sometime in the future...
I was a bit surprised that there wasn't any discomfort shown by Owen towards him, considering he spent most of last season shagging his girlfriend...but maybe guilt isn't allowed?

I thought this was really good. Again, another take on alien activity, and like many previous "Torchwood" episodes it mixes it in with the grimness of our world to give a good take on the sort of thing that would probably happen if we ever did get alien guests.

I must admit though, that half way through I heard a coin drop somewhere and suddenly thought "I'm actually watching Creature from the Pit on a budget".

I'm starting to think this too. I fell asleep watching last night's, enduced by all the boring scenes with Gwen & Rhys.

Funny, I thought those scenes had things like 'drama' and 'emotional content' and were the actual point of the episode. Why did you find them boring? They were at least having an argument that sounded convincing (at least until Gwen mentioned aliens) and not discussing wedding rings and their flat decoration.

I have to say the only bit that annoyed me was the scene specifically there because "Owen and Tosh have to have a little encounter where it's obvious she suddenly likes him and he hasn't noticed her so we can have a will-they-or-won't-they thread running through the season". I was rather hoping she'd be a lesbian after she slept with Daniella Denby-Ashe.

I think Tosh has always had a soft spot for Owen. I remember there being a couple of photos of him on her fridge last year and wasn't she taunted about the way she feels about him once or twice too? Or did I imagine that?

Back on topic: I felt the Gwen/Rhys stuff more tolerable than the Tosh/Owen stuff. Which is just painful to watch.

I like Gwen's hair. It reminds me of Samantha Fox.

The Gwen v Rhys argument I thought was very convincing. And although yes it did jar when Gwen mentioned the "aliens" thing, Rhys played it exactly as anyone would have. Particularly as he'd already found out that Gwen had been lying to him, the whole aliens thing must have sounded to him like last minute desperation. It's a shame we didn't see the moment that she convinced him though. The next thing you know, they're in the Hub and Gwen's telling Rhys to share the knowledge of the big meaty whale in the slaughterhouse.

She was certainly not happy when Owen revealed his and Gwen's secret snog (from Cyberwoman) in the camping scene in Countrycide.

I don't think I dislike the idea because it's inconsistent, it's more that I feel I'm being lead. I don't see two people in a state of romantic flux, I see two actors and Russell T leaning over a notepad with a big fag saying "We've got to have a romantic angle!"

Perhaps this is more an indictement of the way we know too much about the production of the show. We laughed at a chap on OG recently who said John Barrowman has ruined "Torchwood" for him by becoming a celebrity on any show going, but maybe he had a point. Personally I've lost any ability to suspend my disbelief with Jack, as I watch it knowing it's John Barrowman acting. It's odd because, for example, I get completely absorbed in "Neighbours" even though I know all the actors names and have the actor playing Zeke on Myspace posting "I'm bored" messages every day. Even Doctor Who completely drags me in. But for some reason Torchwood doesn't. I love the plots, and I love the effects, but I do find it hard to suspend my disbelief. Perhaps it's just a very unbelievable show (would Gwen really not have bumped into Rhys before now? She's spent the last year and a half romping round Cardiff in her big Torchwood emblazoned jeep). Or maybe there's some other reason.

Perhaps it's that the tone of the show changes every week and there's no emotional core to the show now that Gwen is just another member of the team?

I enjoyed this episode, and thought it had a lot going for it. Nothing superbly great, but enjoyable. It would be nice for Torchwood to be cutting edge, but often feels "like stuff you've seen before".

For me the worst part was the end when the creature wakes and writhes in pain. The effects were SOOO badly done, it kind of killed the believability in it. In fact I felt sure in those scenes I was watching a really bad Pertwee story - although is there any other kind?

Was it just me who during Gwens lecture to Reese that "you can't just blunder in there ...", thought about pots and kettles?

This from the woman who used to touch all the wrong buttons to unleash hell over Cardiff ... which isn't hard to do.

I wouldn't be so pretentious as to try to persaude other people to eat the same food as me. I'm not completely happy with the whole meat thing myself. I prefer fish even though I'd have a job to explain why that gives me any moral high ground, it just feels like it does.

I knew what you meant and again would say good luck with that - cooked or uncooked it's not for me.

I have now watched Torchwood. They really are making it up as they go along aren't they. It was fun, embarrassing, witty, disgusting, clichéd, original, promising, boring and confusing.

Best moment: Ianto's "release a single" line. He can do throwaway deadpan.

Worst moment: Way too much dead flesh. It was like porn for butchers.

And dramatic shouting in a Welsh accent will never be anything other than hilarious.
Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?

If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...
