2.4: Meat
Will Rhys venture into the world of Torchwood tonight? How will Gwen react when her two worlds collide?
You can talk about Meat here!

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Is that a thinly-veiled euphemism, Mr Hunt?

Blimey I struggled with this one, I looked at the clock at 9.22 and couldn't believe that it was only half way through it's running time. The concept was interesting enough, but the way they dragged out the Gwen and Rhys nonsense bored me senseless. I've always struggled to like Rhys, and understand why a character like Gwen would have a relationship with such a dull bloke, but this made me dislike the both of them even more.
I'm fed up with the series of being so overtly serious, and Gwen being in 'angry anquished ranty' mode at the end of nearly every episode, I don't buy the sudden character changes of all the other Torchwood team members, and Jack's the only thing keeping me watching it - but if it carries on like this for much longer I don't think I'll bother unfortunately.Last edited by Alex; 6th Feb 2008 at 10:33 PM. Reason: To spell Gwen's name right.

Seems all sorts of weird stuff goes on in Merthyr too.
I have to say I really enjoyed this one, although I think they borrowed the creature from the Primeval CGI department.Geoff

6th Feb 2008, 10:12 PM #17Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?
If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

I'm wondering whether the version with all the effing and blinding cut out will be entitled 'Quorn'.

I really liked this one.
Except for the really, really stupid bits. And the wobble-cam direction which always gets on my tits. In Rhys and Gwen's first argument, it looked like it was being filmed by incontinent mole-men on a bouncy castle.
I thought Rhys was brill this week and I really enjoyed some of his arguments with Gwen. But he only leapt in front of the bullet for the sake of it, as though his internal body clock said 'I need to get shot this episode'. Seeing as Gwen survived a shotgun blast and Owen survived being shot at point blank by Ianto last year, she needn't have worried. Why don't they just say they're all wearing bulletproof gear?
Er... yeah, the space whale stuff was nice too. It was quite cute and looked like a big hamburger. I liked Jack's line 'We incinerated it'. Should have been followed by 'It rained gobbets of fat and ash on Cardiff for the last 15 hours...' or 'Best barbeque ever!'Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I liked it. Not as much as the last two weeks, but still way better than Ep.1.
I don't mind Rhys actually. I think i like him because he is down to earth & 'ordinary', & not a poser.
I still feel as though i haven't really noticed anyone except Jack & Gwen though.
Well there was Tosh last week, but who are the others again?
The sentimentality over the creature's plight seemed a bit contrived though. Otherwise good, if not anything special. But they can't all be like last week's ep.

I too liked it. And as Wayne says, not as good as the two previous but good none the less. Rhys added a bit of 'Joe public' to the proceedings.
I got a little tired of Tosh going after Owen, it's getting wearing, & he's not interested.
I thought the CGI was way better than Primeval manage. Just above average.
Angela rated it 7.5/10.

6th Feb 2008, 11:59 PM #22Yeah. Good luck with that.
I didn't watch Torchwood.
I wouldn't be so pretentious as to try to persaude other people to eat the same food as me. I'm not completely happy with the whole meat thing myself. I prefer fish even though I'd have a job to explain why that gives me any moral high ground, it just feels like it does.
