Also scored higher in Scotland than the rest of the country. Is this a first?
An update of last week's overnights...

Shocked at the low rating for Creek, but wasn't it against the Frost finale?
Hurrah for Who though!

Full Doctor Who Newspage report:
The Beast Below was watched by 6.7 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight figures.
The programme had an audience of 6.4 million on BBC One, with an additional 330,000 watching on BBC HD. The programme share was 34%. Although a drop on the previous week the programme was still the most watched of the day beating the second placed National Lottery by 0.8 million viewers. It is very rare for a programme placed so early in the evening to top the ratings for the day, especially on what was one of the best Saturdays of the year so far.
The best ITV 1 could do was for the network premier of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix which got 5.7 million watching. The FA Cup had an average of 3.3 million viewers, with a peak of 4.9 million against Doctor Who.
The highest peak of the day was between 4.15pm and 4.30pm when 7.6 million watched the Grand National.
Overall the programme currently stands as the twelfth most watched of the week, with Sundays ratings still to come. A top ten place is still a possibility once the final ratings are calculated next week.

That's not catastrophic but whichever way the News Page dresses it up, that's still a loss of over two million viewers in 7 days which isn't great. We were hoping for a bit better, given the only competition was a Harry Potter repeat.

Not bad - I expected a lower figure due to the weather, but we're still the most popular TV thing out there of a Saturday night!

Yes, the weather was obviously a factor, and this week's episode probably didn't have the big selling points of last week's, or indeed future episodes, but that's not too bad. I still think the series needs to establish a fixed time slot again, rather than being shunted around the schedules from week to week. Surely that must having a bearing on ratings?

Does anyone know where it ranks among the ratings for the episodes since 2005?

the opening episode was always going to attract a much bigger then usual viewing figure ok there has been a drop of 2 mill but Doctor Who, since it came back has pretty much averaged around the 6.5 to 7m mark each episode. So in that respect I don't think there's anything to worry about if this series continuse to average 6.5m per episode the bbc are going to be more then happy.

Potter was a premiere and The Beast Below's overnights are just over 1m down from last week's opener. I was expecting the FA Cup to rate about 1-1.5m higher.

It was always going to shed viewers thanks to the combined forces of an FA Cup semi-final which was still finely balanced at 0-0 when Who began plus being a very warm, sunny day. You can't compare its performance to other modern episodes until the final timeshifted figure is available. I believe that the final figure now increases more than in previous years due to a change in the BARB rating system.
Potter wasn't a factor as that started as soon as Who ended.
Will be v. interesting to see what happens next week with a 6.30pm start, no footie in competition and the Daleks presumably being well trailered!

As James says, it's on way too early. I know of several people who are unable to watch it at that time, who end up taping it or catching it on iPlayer...

That is superb, I thought it would gain a million for the final figure, but wasn't expecting that! That's not far off Rose which had the double advantage of starting at 7pm when it was dark!
Let's not be too hasty in writing off Beast Below either, that could well get 8m for its final figure.

18th Apr 2010, 10:52 AM #269Victory of the Daleks achieved an overnight figure of 6.2m viewers, with a 32.7% audience share. Doctor Who was the most-watched programme on BBC One for Saturday.
Hmmm. It's actually LESS than last weeks. With Daleks.
Apparently Britains Got Talent got 10m on its return.

The final figures should be between 7-7.5m.

Lets not forget that yesterday was really the first gloriously sunny Saturday we've had this year.
