take off the hd viewrs a dip below 6m is not the best of results but the early time slot probably didn't help yet even at 5.9m it was still BBC's most watched programm.

It seems that Doctor Who is now watched by exactly the same number of people each week!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

The Prisoner got the same figures (1.6m) as well. Only lost about 9m from the end of BGT (9.7m) this week, though.

Did The Prisoner have any promotion? It seems ITV are rather embarrassed by the whole thing.

I think a slight drop in the viewing figures when tennent left was inevitable but if it continues to average over 6m each episode the powers that be at the BBC, are going to be reasonably happy . If series 6 can also continue to average just above 6m then we will be almost certain to get a series 7.

6pm was quite late for most of the first 26 years of the show! In this era of Sky+, VOD, Iplayer etc. etc. it really doesn't matter what time it's on (within reason). I've only seen 4 of the 7 episodes this series to date "live", and will not be seeing 2 of the next 3 live either. All on catch up a day or two later.

true but it would be interesting to compare the average audience of those episoes that went out at 7pm compared to those that started before 6.30pm.

Indeed, but in theory the timeshift would not be as dramatic as it has been so far this year, i.e. the final audience figure may be similar when all's said and done. Anyway, we can put it to the test soon as I understand that the episode on Saturday 29th is going to start at 7 now that the Rainbow finishes this weekend.

Sticking it on Saturday nights was insane. It might have done better on Sunday or Monday.

    WE'RE DOOMED!
The glorious weather across the UK on Saturday saw the series fall to the lowest overnight total since the series returned in 2005. 4.24 million watched on BBC One with an additional 0.30 million watching on BBC HD. The share remained consistent with 32.2% of the total audience.

Only 13.1 million were watching TV when Doctor Who started implying many were still out enjoying the hottest weekend of the year. The programme inherited an audience of 1.8 million viewers from Junior Apprentice and peaked with 4.8 million on BBC One.

The winner of the night was Over the Rainbow, with the results show topping the night with 6.2 million and the earlier show getting 5.8 million watching. Both Casualty and The National Lottery: In It to Win It 2012 beat Doctor Who with the programme coming fifth for the day. With Sunday's overnight figures to come Doctor Who is the 32nd most watched programme for the week. Against Doctor Who, ITV1 achieved 1.9 million for The Whole 19 Yards.

Final figures will be released next week and will include those who recorded the programme for viewing later. The lowest confirmed figure for the revived series so far, is 6.1 million for the Satan Pit in June 2006.
    Chibbers has destroyed the series!

and the only reason over the rainbow, got a higher then usual rating was because it was the final otherwise that would of been much lower i was expecting a figure below 6m but certtainly not below 5. you can probably add on to that maybe .5million who would of taped it as well. but it just gose to show very hot sunny wheather and tv just don't go together

Ahh, but when the time shift is added on and everyone who timeshifted it is added in, it'll probably be fine.

And it was an absolutely glorious day.
