    Yes indeed.

Slightly With all the press that school bullying gets these days I find it hard to accept that the UK's top shows, Britain's Got Talent, X Factor etc etc. resort to bullying and ridicule to get their audience.

"X-Factor" isn't exactly bullying. There's a difference between criticism and bullying!

6.9m is still good, it will probably go over 7m after overnights. Might finally be the affect of the earlier slot though, maybe even the difference between 6:20 and 6:45 has a large affect :

Every season opener so far has had a certain novelty factor- I'm just wondering whether the novelty of watching just to see how Catherine Tate works in Who hasn't worn off after a couple of episodes, and everybody who expected to see Lauren and Gran has been disappointed that she's actually acting and after a fairly light starter, it's back to normal Who.

Maybe if they actually showed it at the same time for two weeks running people would remember when to watch.

9.04m is a fantastic figure considering what the overnights said... I doubt Planet of the Ood will manage that, maybe 7.5-8.0m though.

Ratings for The Sontaran Stratagem are in:

    6.4 million viewers (35.2% share)

Bit disappointing on the face of it (though the overnights will probably push it past 7 million), but it was the most watched show on BBC1 all day, and only 2nd to Britain's Got Talent across the channels. Good weather and that stupid 6.20pm start are to blame... it really is the wrong timeslot.

Top 10 Programmes (millions of viewers)

    1 …. 9.4 (41.3%) …. Britain's Got Talent (20:00) ITV
    2 …. 6.4 (35.2%) …. Doctor Who (18:15) BBC1
    3 …. 6.0 (26.5%) …. Casualty (20:45) BBC1

I've not seen any of it, so don't even really know what it is, but that Britain's Got Talent is amazingly popular isn't it!! Not sure how you can say it's the wrong timeslot though, Pip, as with that one exception nothing's beating it. It couldn't do much better, surely?

From the trailers I've seen, the word that comes to mind is "freakshow", although the drop from Who into I'd Do Anything suggests that people only have a certain amount of patience with shows about amateur performers trying to make the big time. You can only win your slot (and win it fairly convincingly), although part of the idea is to get people watching television who would otherwise be doing other things. But again, it was a surprisingly fine day, at least around here where the forecast had been for rain all day.

My point is that Doctor Who is outperforming everything else on BBC1, but it's being used as the main attraction to keep people watching afterwards, and they're not. There's always a massive rise and fall in viewing figures before and after each episode, proof that people are tuning in especially to see Dr Who. It should be the centerpiece of the evening for that reason, not the lead in.

Well last night for instance, according to early figures, nearly 3 million more people were watching television at 7pm compared to 6.15pm. And a million of those would probably have been watching Who if it had started at 7pm...
