If you take out every other programme in the top 30 then Doctor Who is the most watched!

Last night was a freak- it's not every week you have two reality show finals more or less going head to head, and Who was caught in the middle as I'd imagine a lot of people were trying to follow both the talent contests/freakshows (delete as appropriate). This season's also been different from the rest in that the big story with the returning enemy happened earlier, so there hasn't been a headline-grabbing story to go on the cover of the Radio Times- perhaps if the production team had known the dates in advance, they could have changed the running order and put either a single episode or the Sontaran two-parter in this slot.

well supprisingly O.G was quite a rational place this morning with the majority of people excepting that Doctor Who was always going to be on a loser going up against BGT final. Although you did get the usuual few sprouting the usuual rubbish blaming the previous episode .

Yes, but "Britains Got Talent" started on the other side in the gap between the last ten minutes of the previous program and the start of "Who".

A poor rating, but that's what you get when ITV put their most popular show opposite us. And if people are going to tape one, it's not going to be the live final which will have the results spoiled for them if they watch it later.

So, hey ho. Shame on ITV for changing their schedule around at the last minute just to clobber Who. OOh look, we've been really devious and made sure lots of people can't watch the most popular show on TV! Well done. Have a bun. But now your only popular program has finished, and you can go back to having whatever mindless shit you choose to replace it with destroyed in the ratings every week by something imaginative.

Some good news, the few who watched it really, really liked it! (from OG)

Episode eight of series four, The Silence in the Library, was the most appreciated programme on any of the four main channels on Saturday with an Appreciation Index of 89. It was the highest score for series four and equal to the highest score for the programme for all time.

Sundays highest rating was 5.4 million, so Doctor Who is still the 28th most watched programme of the week. This position is likely to rise when corrected figures, including numbers for those recording the programme, are released by BARB in 9 days time. A top twenty place is just possible but unlikely.

Some of the viewers who went missing on Saturday turned up to watch Sunday's BBC3 repeat which got an overnight audience of 1.14 million, nearly double the audience for the repeat of Episode 7. It was a 5.6% share of the audience and the most watched programme on all multi-channel TV for Sunday, comfortably ahead of the repeat of Britain's got Talent.

Saturday's edition of Doctor Who Confidential was watched by 0.52 million viewers. The programme, which had a share of 2.7 %, was the 3rd most watched on multi-channel television on Saturday. The Sunday repeat got 0.60 million viewers and was 10th in the chart.

That's a bit venemous. You could just as easily say they shifted it to avoid going head to head with the BBCs talent show final. Seeing as they both probably appeal to the same audience you could even say it was a nice thing not forcing them to choose between the two live finals, but allowing them to see both.

Also... if you can stop people watching "the most popular show on TV" buy putting up something against it that they would rather watch, then you can't really call it the most popular show on TV.

I don't really get the logic there. The returning monsters were in episode 4 and 5 this year, just like they were last year. The year before it was on;y a little different with them appearing in 5 and 6 and the year before that it was episode 6 again. Plus I doubt the majority of people had even heard of the Sontarans anyway.

Well I was feeling venomous. And it wasn't Doctor Who that was suspicously a later time between the Radio Times preview and the listings page.

Yes but couldn't they have planned it so that their final was on a different day to the BBC's final? Even the sunday? Not that I watched either but two finals in one day is a bit too much.

Plus I doubt the majority of people had even heard of the Sontarans anyway.
I agree but there as a large amount of hype for the episodes, most notable the "they're back!" Radio Times cover which in theory should have got viewers interests even if it was in an "oh some old monster I've never heard of is back, must be good if they've brought them back, I'd better watch that then".

But Coronation Street usually adds about 800,000-1million on timeshift, so the final figures will be tight. Doctor Who could still DOOOOOOOOOOMED!!

Silence in the Library final figures from OG:

Final figures released by BARB give episode Eight of Series Four, Silence in the Library, an official rating of 6.27 million viewers.

The week was dominated by ITV which had 15 of the top twenty places, thanks to the runaway success of Britain's Got Talent, the final of which is now the most watched programme of the year to date.

Doctor Who was the 27th most watched for the week on British Television and the 9th most watched on BBC Television. It is the first time the programme has dropped out of the top twenty since The Empty Child in 2005 and the lowest position since the series returned in 2005. The rating is the lowest since The Satan Pit in 2006, which got 6.1 million watching.

Some of the missing viewers watched the Sunday repeat on BBC3 which was watched by 1.35 million viewers and was the 2nd most watched programme on multi-channel for the week. To date over half a million have also watched it on the BBC iPlayer and the total reach of the programme is over 8.5 million.

The Saturday showing of Doctor Who Confidential got 0.57 million viewers making it the 31st most watched multi-channel programme. The Sunday repeat was higher in the chart with 0.63 million watching and number 24 in the chart

But An Audience with Neil Bloody Diiiiiiiiaaaaaamond still beat it by 10,000! Probably because 9million Britain's Got Talent viewers were watching the opening/closing ten minutes.

Although it got the lowest overnights then, it's got more on final figures than The Santa Pit from series 2.
