    Default The Ratings Thread

    From Og:

Unofficial figures show that the first episode of Series Four, Partners in Crime was watched by 8.4 million viewers, giving it a 39.4% share of the total television audience. It was the most watched programme of the day, beating the second placed Casualty by over 1 million viewers.

The overnight figures are slightly up on the last two Season premiers, both of which benefited by being transmitted earlier in the year and in a later time slot.

The programme got almost double the audience of its main ITV1 opposition, You've Been Framed, which got 4.7 million watching.

The audience peaked in the last quarter hour at 8.7 million, with the BBC1 audience dropping by nearly 3 million when the programme finished. Final figures, which will be released by BARB in ten days time, are likely to be higher as the programme was transmitted slightly later than its published time slot.

The programme currently stands as the 10th most watched of the week, behind several episodes of EastEnders and Coronation street.

The Childrens audience was 1.3 million, which was a 51.0% share of all 4-15 year old's watching.
    It did fantastically!

So, all the people decrying the earlier start time have been shown that Doctor Who can, perhaps not always will, get high viewing figures earlier in the evening.

Yes, I hold my hands up! At least for this week, I was wrong.

It's a nice way to be wrong though. If I'm proved wrong as much during the rest of the season, I'll be delighted!

I gather that it's on at 6:45 next week. It doesn't particularly bother me, but I do think a fixed timeslot (whether it be 7:00, or 6:20, or whatever) is better than one which changes from week to week.

    8.4 though - superb!

Higher than I thought it would be and slightly up on the overnights for 'New Earth'/'Smith and Jones', isn't it?

Fifteen minute breakdown from Marcus on the Doctor Who Forum.

    Time ………. BBC1 ……………… ITV ……………… BBC2 ……………… CH4 ……………… CH5
    18:15 …. 7.2 (37.0%) …. 3.2 (16.3%) …. 1.2 ( 6.2%) …. 1.4 ( 7.1%) …. 0.9 ( 4.7%)
    18:30 …. 8.4 (40.0%) …. 4.1 (19.6%) …. 1.2 ( 5.6%) …. 1.2 ( 5.5%) …. 0.9 ( 4.3%)
    18:45 …. 8.7 (40.2%) …. 4.7 (21.7%) …. 1.3 ( 5.9%) …. 1.2 ( 5.4%) …. 0.6 ( 2.9%)
    19:00 …. 7.5 (34.1%) …. 5.7 (26.1%) …. 1.7 ( 7.6%) …. 1.0 ( 4.7%) …. 0.7 ( 3.2%)
1.3m/51.0% of children watching is another great result.

As is currently sitting tenth in this week's overnight chart - with only Heartbeat likely to get near it tonight (and that's only been averaging about 7-7.5 million recently).

P.S Lost about 5 million viewers since the last episode. WE'RE DOOOOOOOMED!!

considering the time it was on and what all the profits of doom were saying (RTD included) 8m + is a fantastic figure for an early evening slot.

8.4m is pretty amazing for a 6.20pm time slot, though I think the fact that it was the first episode was what gave it the upper hand - if it was a mid-season episode, I don't think it would've got that figure so early in the evening.

Despite the mixed response the episode has got here and on other forums, I suspected it would do well. 8.4 is a superb figure for its earlier timeslot.

Of course, the forthcoming episodes in the series which will be shown later in the evening are bound to attract lower ratings.

BBC! SHOW SOME SENSE! KEEP DOCTOR WHO IN AN EARLIER SLOT!

    The AI figures are in...

Episode One of the new series of Doctor Who, Partners in Crime, achieved an Appreciation Index of 88. The figure, which puts the programme in the excellent category, was one of the highest of the weekend. The episode was most enjoyed by English females in the 35-55 age group.

The Appreciation Index, or AI, is a measure of how much the audience liked the programme. It is a score out of 100, based on responses from a carefully selected panel. The average score for drama on BBC1 and ITV1 is 77. A score in excess of 85 is regarded as excellent while a score below 60 is poor.

With overnights now available for the whole week, Doctor Who is currently the 10th most watched programme of the week. Final figures will be released by BARB in 9 days time.
It's bizarre to think that women aged 35-55 are enjoying it most!

Well they interview a sample of viewers (and ask their ages) and take that as a representation of the overall audience.

But maybe it's real core audience is women aged 45-70, and they're all lying about their age.

Wow Amazing results , I was doubtful about the new time slot but looks like I was wrong. It meant to be moving to a later slot later in the series though, I wonder if that will mean even higher ratings :

    This is also interesting:
    19:30..9.12m
    19:35..5.40m
The BBC isn't getting a residual Who audience for whatever other rubbish they have on after the show! They need more advertising for 'coming soon'... - the end credits are dooomed!
