And of course Space Museum has perhaps one of the best opening episodes I've seen. The rest of it's a bit of a letdown, but for sheer excellence, part 1 is worth watching alone.

I must be one of the few people who actually likes The Space Museum, but then that's hardly a supprise as there are hardly any Hartnell, stories I don't like..

Oh, I enjoy it enough. I just feel that the first episode towers over the rest of it. I certainly rate Space Museum higher than a lot of other Hartnell stories that are generally better regarded.

Considering it's currently just £11.99 online at Zavvi, you can't go wrong with The Beginning Box Set, featuring the first 13 episodes and a half-hour recreation of the next 7 (Marco Polo) plus some excellent extras.

And various bits of pilotage. In fact it was watching the stories on this set one episode a week (on their "birthdays"- it was a 45th anniversary thing which grew like Topsy) which set me on my current kick of watching all the Hartnell episodes currently on DVD, one a week on a Friday night.

Aren't you a bit early for that though - the 45th anniversary will be this November!

Ah, I see! Still scary to think that the show - and the Daleks - will be 45 soon!

I remember when it was 33; will I still be around when it's 78?

Go for The Gunfighters if you can, it's a true 'Marmite' story!
