Default Name it, damn you, name it!!

Despite being generally regarded by all sane & right-thinking people as one of the best ever Doctor Who stories, there's one thing that really niggles me about City of Death, and which leaves a slight black mark on an otherwise perfect copybook. It's the title of the story - I mean, City of Death is hardly a great title, and could apply to pretty much any DW story set in a City couldn't it.

However, I have to admit that try as I might I can't honestly think of an apt title for the story. So does anybody have any suggestions for what would have been a better title for this wonderful, wonderful story.

The other stories in season 17 are all to the "Something of the Something" format (well, more or less - one is the lesser-spotted "Something from the Something" and if it hadn't been cancelled Shada would have eerily presaged JN-T's love of one-word titles) so I will be awarding extra points* for any suggestions that fit that template.

    So, any ideas?

*There aren't actually any points up for grabs.

Even if there were, points don't mean prizes.

Ooh! What a good idea for a thread.

Of course if it was a JNT production, the ultimate title would be Paris. It's also The One Where They Are In Love but that's not too snappy. When I was a kid it was always Doctor Who and the One Eyed Monster (but that might be considered rude nowadays). I do like the suggestion The Last of the Jagaroth, which seems to fit S17 perfectly. Perhaps, considering it's used in the script A Matter of Time would fit?

The Mystery of Why This Is Held in Such High Regard.

    It beats me.
I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one to stand around looking impressed! What’s the point in having you all?

There are somethings that you can't explain.
If you don't get City of Death I don't think I think I could explain in a way that you'd understand why I absolutely adore this story. So I'm not going to try.
    I'm used to it though!

It's not that I don't get it, I just don't understand why it's so popular.

As stories go, it's OK, but for me, it doesn't get any better than that. Tom acts the fool throughout and that alone takes the edge off of it.

Fair enough Duncan. I could go on for hours (and have in the past) about all the things I love about it, but I won't put anyone through that again!

It's not the right thread for it, but it's all down to personal choice I suppose.

Absolutely! We all like different things from Doctor Who after all, and as this board shows we all seldom agree on what makes for a great Doctor Who story. We wouldn't have so much fun talking about the series if we all liked the same things!

I'll suggest The Faces of Time. There's several reasons for this, none of which are very good.
