Default Music to kill your parents by

I remember that title on a British Electric Foundation (BEF) tape way back in late 70s.

The purpose of this thread if not done already is to share what your parents forced upon you

    Starting with gentleman Jim:

I heard this Perry Como one so many times that the lyrics are stuck in my head forever

It's grown on me over the years

I was in hysterics when the following singer was used in Mars Attacks! Clearly others had suffered too

My Dad always listened to Country music or Oldies. It was never forced upon me though, and in recent years I've grown a bit of appreciation for both, in fact I only listen to the oldies station on the radio anymore, though now it is less 50's and more 60's/70's than what it was when I was a kid, but that is ok, as the 60's I think is my favorite era of music...

Dad likes Nat "King" Cole, Frankie Laine, Johnnie Ray, Sinatra, fifties stuff. Mum, the Carpenters, Dolly Parton*, Dean Friedman, Bob Dylan. Only Nat and Frankie Laine really rubbed off on me.**

*-This I'm sure will get noticed in certain quarters of PS...
    **-In a manner of speaking...

I think perhaps this thread would have been more aptly titled "Music your parents tried to kill you with"

My mother liked listening to Edith Piaf. A lot.

She may regret rien, but my ears certainly do...

There may be something to that... I've never owned a Queen album, and I'm not into men OR women with fat butts.

A bit of everything really. I had young parents so we had a lot of current music while I was growing up. Dad was a big prog fan and of course his favourite band is Genesis so they were s taple of my childhood, but we also had Wings, Yes, ELP, ELO, a bit of Queen, ABBA (although I soon loved them more!) but then it'd diversify and we'd have Kate Bush, Jim Reeves, Diana Ross, Steve Winwood, Elton John, The Moody Blues... I could be here all day listing them all. My Dad has very diverse taste. The we had classical too sometimes. Mum loved Rod Stewart and T-Rex and The Doors.
Our tastes parted the day he bought a Lighthouse Family album though.

Funny thing is that as I've got older I've come back to many of those things I grew up hearing and come to love them again. Except The Lighthouse Family, of course.

    Si xx

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

Well Si because I heard some stuff so much it seems a part of my early life and I have to admit to having a fondness for a number of the tracks. I heard for example Jim Reeves top 20 hits non stop on a journey down to Cornwall back in '73 and as a result it's etched on my long term memory as part of a family holiday I really enjoyed

And tonight's offering is Popcorn by Hot Butter - my Dad took a real fancy to this one in '72 - I guess the electronic style was a new sound at the time

I have to admit to loving it when I was 9 and it's stuck in my head ever since

I think my parents are very responsible for my love of Queen, Slade, The Beatles, The Who, The Moody Blues and Led Zeppelin amongst others because they were the bands always on in the car when I was a child. Until the pink Maestro had the stereo nicked anyway. But I love these bands more than my parents ever did, although they exposed me to the music but it wasn't something they pressed me to like. As mum loves to tell everyone I definitely know more about Queen and The Who now than she ever did, she was a listener, I'm a fan. Except for T-Rex... she was definitely a true T-Rex fan!

Nowt wrong with a bit of Hot Butter. I remember buying the single myself, I love(ed) it. Still have it too, AND still play it.

And Kaybee's parents have good taste too.
