The Doctor and older Companions ...
I was looking about on Wikipedia.
Catherine Tate is 40, whilst David Tennant is a sprightly 37.
This of course makes the companion older than the Doctor.
Trying to plunder my brain, I can't think of another instance where the companion was played by someone older than the Doctor.
I'm not counting Kylie Minogue, as I'm not really sure if she qualifies as a companion proper (she wasn't reoccuring, and didn't go in the Tardis).
Is there anyone else?

It's an interesting reversal for me too this year - for the first time since the relaunch, the companion is older than me (Rose incidentally was the first time in the show's history that the companion was younger than me!), whereas for the first time ever I'm now older than the Doctor!

Gerald Flood, who voiced Kamelion was born in 1927 apparently. As Peter Davison was born in 1951, this makes Gerald around 34 years his senior! I'm not sure when the actual Kamelion robot was built, but I guess it would have been around 1980.
I checked up David Brierly too but he was born in 1935, one year after Tom.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

And that was skirting around the truth quite widely!
