Oh yes they did. Not in the sense of fighting physically against an alien, but in the sense of fighting to save the city. Both were trying to prevent a nuclear disaster, and Tosh in particular was fighting to stay alive while doing it.

Thanks Jason, that's what I said & Si laughed at me for it.

But I'm used to saying stuff & it being ignored, including this probably.

I enjoyed that episode, with a fewsmall gripes. But I'm still taking it all in, it was a very busy episode!

    Doubt it.
They had their chance and they missed it.

I had to go Wikipedia it in order to understand where Mr Smith came from and that the child is her adopted son.

I had to watch and enjoy the whole series of The Sarah Jane-Smith Adventures to find that out!
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

It's so unlikely that a Doctor Who fan would have knowledge of the Sarah-Jane Adventures! Alert the church elders!

But then the other side of the mirror - most kids aren't going to know too much about Torchwood either.

"Mummy why doesn't Gwen have sex with the Dalek and turn it into dust?"

But why do you NEED to know that before you watch? I was 7 in 1983 and I managed to work out why Sarah Jane had K9, how the Doctor had a granddaughter old enough to be his aunt and why he kept bumping into craggy old people he seemed to know. Hell, a whole scene revolves around a plot point from 1969, it never stopped us enjoying the story!

It's actually fun for a kid to look these things up and make sense of them.

I'd like to know where Rose got her supergun, seeing as neither UNIT not Torchwood seem to have anything like that. Also I'd like to know who she's actually working with, how she crossed dimensions, how she kept apparently time-travelling in Turn Left despite the fact that Donna was apparently the guinea pig for the time travel machine etc etc. I know there's an episode left but there's an awful lot of other stuff to cover and I bet a lot of that never really gets explained.

Well you have to remember the Alternative Universe Torchwood had Cyberman-blasting guns, which could be modified to work on the skin of a Dalek. Our Torchwood didn't have that.

Likewise their Torchwood also developed the void-travelling technology, including those devices which looked like a cross between a Medallion and Simple Simon.

It's almost like Torchwood has an Alternative Universe Doctor locked in a basement turning out this technology!

    !
though interestingly Rose's teleportation was being controlled by some body else presumably by Torchwood back in the other alternate Earth.

That would be the Alternate Earth Doctor who is still currently stuck on Tom Baker, and who Rose has decided she doesn't fancy. However Sarah Jane will realise her supressed feelings for him, and go back with him, with future Sarah Jane adventures happening in Alternate Earth.

Actually with the walls between reality breaking down - it would be a good excuse to have multiple Doctors you know.
