It's wierd but both the Macra Terror & Planet of the Spiders have creatures on the cover that are way better than in the actual TV episodes.

They're all pretty poor but The Macra Terror edges this for me.

To a degree, I like all of these covers.

Keeper of Tracken is probably the weakest of the five, but scores points for the Melkur being on it.

Frontios takes fourth place. The Tractator looks good, and the image, although a little underplayed, is still quite effective.

Macra Terror gets third place. The Macra looks very good, but the background's a little weak

In second place is Planet of Spiders. Now that spider looks scary, and I love the crystal just behind it.

That leaves Planet fo Fire in first place, thanks to a great likeness of Anthony Ainley, and a nice little shot of Kamelions just behind him.

I quite like Frontios, the Gravis is very well drawn.

I found this a tricky group really with no outstanding cover but nothing really lame either. For once, I've actually got them all in my collection too.

I've plumped for Traken primarily as for some reason it's making me feel a bit nostalgic for that 1980/81 era.

I hate that Keeper of Traken cover (sorry Jonno) mainly because of the big whitespace that takes up a third of it. Did they run out of time to draw a background?! Even apart from that, Nyssa is a bit angular and isn't a great likeness.

Frontios is moody, simple but effective, and I really like it. Macra Terror is OK, but looks a bit too cartoony for me. Planet of Fire is excellent, and I love the merging of Ainley & Kamelion - but I'm voting for Planet of the Spiders, mainly, if I'm honest, for nostalgic reasons. That's the cover I've got on the shelf, and I remember getting it, and it IS a very striking cover - blue crystal, spider, boomph!

It's between Spiders & Macra for me, but Macra is the slightly better cover. Just.

Planet of Fire is superb and by far the best cover here!

Traken for me, but I am madly in love with Nyssa, so that probably clouds my judgement!

I'm loving the fact that this group is so tight. I like all the covers, and don't mind which ones go through.

    OK, more detail:

Planet of Fire is brilliant. I love Skilleters work for season 21, and this is the highlight for me. Strong likeness, a good layout and a really striking piece of art. One of my very favourite Target covers.

The Macra Terror suffers by just being a generic crab rather than an actual Macra, due I believe to the lack of reference material available at the time. It's not bad, but not a favourite.

Planet of the Spiders has a great cystal, but I don't like that spider much. Just a bit dull really.

Kepper of Traken is a fine painting, but as Jonno said, the white background is a little off putting. Greens or browns would have better reflected the story.

Frontios is another great Skilleter effort, and a nice dramatic piece, which might have won if it wasn't up against Planet of Fire.

Quite a nice group, many of which hold some nostalgic value for me, but it's the moody and menacing Planet of the Spiders cover which just edges out Frontios and The Macra Terror for me.

Spiders is the best-drawn or -painted or whatever.
