Default Time's Champion: Craig Hinton's Last Book

Remember Craig Hinton's Sixth Doctor/ Valeyard masterplan from the MA Millenial Rites? Remember how much Craig liked the Sixth Doctor and Mel as a team? Well, before he died, Craig had plotted a potential final adventure for Colin and Bonnie, Time's Champion, tying up the Valeyard storyline (and about a million other storylines too), which was superceded by Gary Russell's Spiral Scratch in the BBC Books range where we read the 6th Doctor's final adventure. Well, that hasn't stopped Time's Champion from making its way into the world.

As a tribute to the late Craig Hinton, the book has been produced for charity. Alister Pearson has done a fab cover, the money goes to the British Heart Foundation and it's already had two print runs.

I bought a copy and read it on holiday, and I have to say that despite it being a total headf*** of continuity, references, characters and all that stuff Craig loved so much, it was an engrossing and enjoyable read. If you've enjoyed Craigs work, you'll probably enjoy this too.

I'm not sure if it's going to get another print run or not, probably will if there's some demand for copies, but if you've enjoyed Craig's work, and want to read one last novel from him, and have £8.99 to spare for The British Heart Foundation, then I'd recommend you get yourself a copy.

As it happens I was about to re-read Millennial Rites anyway, so I'll see how I get on with it.

I started reading this yesterday. My God, fan**** barely covers it.

I am not even at the halfway point and already we've had appearances from Benton, Romana, the Cybermen, the Valeyard, characters from books and audios, tonnes of references to almost every companion and a relation of Kronos from The Time Monster. And just as I thought it was safe to get on with things one of the supporting players turns out to be the son of Morbius!!

That said it's all done in such an adorable, big, explosive way that its impossible to dislike. I imagine Big Finish could do a wonderful job turning it into an epic audio drama.
