    Default Loose Cannon Recons

Thanks to Wayne, I've just had my first look at one of the Loose Cannon reconstructions, Power Of The Daleks. I've only had time to watch one episode so far, but I've been pretty impressed by what I've seen so far.

I was put off the idea of recons after watching the BBC video of Tenth Planet episode 4, which didn't really impress me. Maybe it was simply the fact that I didn't know what to expect, I don't know. But I've really enjoyed Power, so far; whether that's down to it being a better story, or just knowing what to expect I really can't say. But it's whetted my appetite for trying out some more of them, and I've visited the Loose Cannon website.

But before I jump in, what recons do you recommend? I fancy The Daleks Masterplan to start off with, but is the recon actually any good? And are there any that I should totally avoid?

The Masterplan recon is really rather good. there's some lovely CGI Dalkes that make it rather special and the whole things is rather well done and really watchable, which always surprises me. The effort they put in is really impressive.
Another big favourite of mine is the colour Marco Polo, which again is just rather special for being different to what you'd normally get. The colouring is really well done.

    Si xx

I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

I've had a chequered history with recons. To be honest, most that i've seen have been pretty poor quality. All blurred & the sound was woolly & muffled. It put me off big time, but Lord President sent me those that you now have, since i got some even better ones thanks to the splendiferous legend that is Pip.

Could that perhaps be down to who you got the copies off of? I wondered that myself when I saw the (longish) list of names where you could get copies. Are some of a better quality than others?

Yes it's highly likely. I think it's just pot luck to be honest. The ones that you've got are very good quality though. I wish my 'Web of Fear' was as good!

The Mission to the Unknown recon was rather good I thought, and for a story with barely any reference material it turned out very nicely. Although Edward de Souzas introduction is terrible, mainly because he is seated in the noiseiest chair ever made.

I started off with recons because I wanted a visual medium to experience the stories. I was greatly surpised later listening to the BBC soundtracks to find that the narration helped me to get into the story more and I enjoyed them much more. Still, I plan to continue getting the LC recons as they come out. I haven't checked their site in a while. I'll have to go see if there is anything new.

I quite like the recons. The Joint Venture Web of Fear one is pretty good.

My personal favourites with regard to recon quality are the colour Marco Polo, the new Myth Makers and The Daleks Master Plan (although most Loose Cannon recons of non-telesnap stories are generally excellent)

And I'm personally looking forward to the new Space Pirates recon - I quite like the story, and the original LC recon was disapointing (although very good when it was made)....

Not sure what the legal postition is, but 'm really appreciating these recons with the narrated audios for the soundtrack!
So far i've got Power, Evil, Underwater Meance, Faceless Ones, & Ice Warriors. They're great quality & they've definitely made those stories more enjoyable than the crappy old video recons with subtitles, or just listening to the audios on their own.
A certain manchunian monoid (nice user name?) should be getting a couple of these in the post any day now.

The LC RECONS are improving all the time: THE DALEKS MASTERPLAN ,MARCO POLO , FURY etc area joy to watch - and are well worth the visit to their site!

LOOSE CANNON WILL NOT, AND NEVER WILL, SUPPLY RECONS ON DVD/VCD/HARD DISK OR EVEN IN TICKER TAPE!!!!!!
Very disappointing - it's lucky there are people working hard to get DVD-quality recons out there! My recon of Fury may not have an interview with Roy Spencer, but the episodes look fab and that's all that matters to me.

There'll be a heavily advertised Ian Levine range available soon.

Yes, but if they do then the BBC will come down on them like a ton of bricks - it's only through sticking to VHS that they're allowed to continue. It's a pain, but VHS quality is better than nothing at all! (Unless you found the DVD files for The Underwater Menace which found their way onto the net )

After all, I'm sure if you publicised your recons on DVD and it gained the popularity of Loose Cannon then you'd have the BBC after you threatening all sorts....

Well I've only made one recon, mainly for my own collection, so I think I'm safe from prison.

I have a feeling you might enjoy prison Pip! How about Holloway or Cell Block H?!

Default RetroRobot molests the Waynster a Zecond Tahme(rrr)!

    I LOVE LC recons!!

I immediately got all the Dalek ones as soon as i discovered them and have been delighted with them all - particularly as at that time i didn't have Any of the audio versions of them either!

HOWEVER - I Don't have a copy of their original version of 'The Evil Of The Daleks' and i note that you Do!!!

Even though i am on DalekAgent-Duty in the antipodes* i'm loony enough to be a Whome (my bid for an anything-but-respectable collective fan pron/pornoun - pornounced "whomie" natchurly) so i'm inevitably mad enough to spring for postage of a tape(s) back & forth and even O/S (Everything's "O/S" from Oz!).

    [* we just don't like 'em - we're proprotuberances ]

Could/Would you do a dub for me? (if i promise to/not-to molest you further or on other occasions? - stroke out whichever is applicable/inapplicable)

Which reminds me to enquire - is your Avatar by any chance "Son Of Braingazm-dude" from 'Brainstorm'?!

    Regards & Egads

    Hello!

Can you keep all requests for "dubbing" material to private messaging? It's a bit of a grey area, but in any case it's probably something you only need to discuss between the two of you.

    Thanks!

    Si.
