    Default Payout in Krankie Beanstalk Incident



    A theatre has been paid a six-figure out-of-court settlement after an accident with a beanstalk left one of The Krankies with a fractured skull.
    Steeldeck Ltd, who supplied the Ribbonlift beanstalk, settled with the Pavilion Theatre, where Janette Tough was injured during a 2004 pantomime.

    Mrs Tough fell 10ft during a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.

    Steeldeck made the one-off payment without admission of liability. The Krankies are pursuing a separate claim.

    Pavilion manager Iain Gordon said: "The fact that they have settled with this substantial sum so quickly speaks volumes.

    "It was a difficult period for all concerned and we have now taken a significant step forward to putting it all behind us."

    Mrs Tough plays Wee Jimmy Krankie as one half of a duo with her husband Ian.

    It was all over the Scottish news at the time. River City's Shellsuit Bob (Stephen Purdon) got her panto role her after the accident. I almost went to see it!!

    There are stories galore about that in their book, which we felt duty bound to purchase two copies of when we discovered it. Apparently they had sex everywhere during the eighties.
