Because they still exist in legend. The history of the Earth records the Daleks, but if you went back in time you wouldn't find them, because they've all gone.
Or maybe he had Captain Jack wittering on about them for half an hour previous when he was trying to get them all to fight!Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

It's just that if their history had gone (as well as them) I'd expect the memories of them to have done as well. Unless it's the second one then.
I don't really go for any of these fan theories about Gallifrey or the Daleks having being wiped out of time (rather than just destroyed). It just seems to me like a very selective interpretation of what's given on screen.
Plus I just don't think much to that as a concept anyway, really.

I put Remembrance after TPOTW simply because of Skaro - I can't imagine the Daleks having had a huge, Time War-waging battle fleet, and at the same time being homeless. So I've put the destruction of Skaro right at the end of their timeline for that reason.

What you have forgotten Andrew is that Skaro wasn't really destroyed. the Daleks put Davros on a fake Skaro for Destiny of the Daleks and that was what the Doctor destroyed in Remembrance... well if you're to believe the frankly shoddy fiction of John Peel that is...

that's my main theory as to why the Daleks changed the events of Remembrance afterwards. To me, it makes sense that in a Time War, there would be editing of the timeline. Hence, it was one of the triggers of the Time War, and the reprecussions were the start of it.

Well, I go by what's said on screen, and there is nothing to imply that Skaro existed during the Time War, or that the Daleks altered history to make it exist again. So, for me Skaro was destroyed prior to the main Time War - during all the initial skirmishes seen in many a TV story from the old series.
I am out there... somewhere.

Of course, one of the problems about theorising in this way is the possibility, if remote, that a future TV story might give some information that contradicts it. But I suppose that'd be a "back to the drawing board" scenario...
