At last! After much thought, my top 20 of 2008!

    20. DOLLY PARTON Jesus And Gravity
    Gospel rouser!

    19. FREEMASONS When You Touch Me
    Bangin'!

    18. CELINE DION My Love
A stunning raw vocal on this track.

    17. WILL YOUNG Grace
Flop second single was a delight.

    16. LEONA LEWIS Run
    A stellar cover version.

    15. MARIAH CAREY Bye Bye
Even the Jay-Z mix is a winner.

    14. JOHN BARROWMAN What About Us
Barlow clearly gave away their best new track.

    13. GIRLS ALOUD I Don't Speak French
Ironically I prefer the French version.

    12. BOYZONE Love You Anyway
Middle aged men mid tempo dancing. Good times.

    11. MARIAH CAREY I Stay In Love
A retread of Breakdown, but a slow burning treat.

    Into the top ten....

    10. SUGABABES Denial
"Didn't want to fall in love with you, didn't want to know the things I knew..."
Artists have a habit of releasing my favourite album track as their last single of the campaign. The Babes were no exception. A nicely subverted dark pop track and far better than their terrible Girls effort.

    9. ALESHA DIXON The Boy Does Nothing
"Does he wash up? Never wash up!"
It's a camp like mambo treat which is a guaranteed booty shaker on the dance floor. The fact that Alesha shakes what her mama gave her and has made such a fab album helps!

    8. KYLIE MINOGUE In My Arms
"How do you describe a feeling?"
I loved this from the leaked demo, so it's odd to think it's a fairly recent single. It gave the concert a much needed ass kick when she performed it. Electro and loveable.

    7. LEONA LEWIS Better In Time
"Thought I couldn't live without you, it's gonna hurt when it heals too..."
She lacks the personality but has a blistering voice. Hurrah for this not quite a ballad number with its deceptively expensive video. If the standard stays at this level she'll be iconic by 2026.

    6. BWO Lay Your Love On Me
"Take a chance on me, take the liberty..."
Strange beyond belief that the 3rd placed Swedish Eurovision selection song should get a UK physical release, but it surely did. A fantastic and fairly sluttly little pop ditty sung by a handsome blonde Swedish guy. Good stuff!

    5. GIRLS ALOUD The Promise
"Got a lot to learn about riding through..."
We can side step the fact that it sounds like "super match game, super match game", this is one of those songs you keep singing all day after you hear it. Helped no end by Mrs Cole being on X Factor, this was a deserved smash hit for the Aloud.

    4. THE SATURDAYS Up
"If you lose me then you know you're just a little bit too slow..."
The thumping electro bassline and the striking video combined to grab my attention for these girls. As catchy as fook, fingers crossed the hits wills keep coming for them. The album's a delight!

    3. KYLIE MINOGUE Wow
"Every inch of you spells out desire..."
It's obvious pop, and I guess had it been the lead off from X, the album might have done better, but this was a big hit for Minster. As much as you've got to love her experimenting, she does excell at exhuberent pop nuggets.

    2. CHARLOTTE PERRELLI Hero
"Out on the line, like a star, like a hero..."
OK, it's debatable in this day and as to whether this was a single or not. All Eurovision tracks were available for download (some even charted) and it came out in Europe, so here it is. A glorious three minutes of high octane vocals and THE key change to make you feel moisture explode in your panties.

So my favourite single of 2008 was...

    1. KYLIE MINOGUE The One
"Star light shimmers everywhere, there's a certain something in the air..."
Thank goodness for EMI. If they hadn't successfully cancelled the physical release, organised no promotion and released the video weeks after the download, this might have ended up being a big hit! Sarcasm ahoy! The stand out track on X, reserved for last single slot, it ripped it up live and was given a storming Freemasons single mix. A definate winner this year!

Better late than never madam! Nice to see Dolly sneaking in there! I like to think the cheapo video and her big 'winged' sleeves clinched it.
