Attack of the Cybermen!
Yup, it's official. And it's not part of a boxset.
March 16th is the date to look out for.
Or not, if you prefer. For every fail, there is an equal and opposite win.
...Oh, who am I kidding?

That is, possibly, excellent!
I'm still hoping for a mockumentary, "Who Wrote Attack of the Cybermen?" extra, but I can't see it somehow...

They can't be doing that, because then I'd be forced to admit I wrte it back in 1984, when I was 9.
Oh come on, you didn't think any adults wrote it, did you?

I assumed it was made up as they went along by pulling suggestions out of a hat. "Now, I want Lytton to play this scene as a goodie..."

I like Attack of the Cybermen - it's one of Colins better stories.

Will we get a Season 22 box set soon then?
-

Probably not. The Two Doctors has already been re-released once, Revelation of the Daleks twice. To do so a third time would just be silly.

Silly perhaps, but if it makes money, 2|e won't give a monkeys.

Season 26 would be the first for a season-al reissue I'd think.

Why? You're not under any obligation to buy it.

Does that ever stop anyone sending people disgruntled letters?

A self-imposed obligation. For every fail, there is an equal and opposite win.

Is there not Saturday Superstore clips and promotional gubbins included? As a seasoner opener at the time when Doctor Who was possibly at its highest profile since the '60's, I remember there being loads of publicity at the time.

Actually that's a good point. The Superstore bits and pieces were on the video, weren't they?
Maybe it's not an exhaustive list?

Steve Roberts has started writing the usual RT article for this release:
Attack of the Cybermen' was produced in studio on 1" videotape and on location on 16mm. It has always had a reputation as being a very noisy / grainy story, and in fact the recording report forms in the tape boxes include a reminder that a noise reducer must be used on transmission. Yet when we came to remaster this story for DVD, it became obvious that the whole of the video was 'sat-up' by about 15% above black level - ie there were no true blacks, just a very noisy and murky dark grey. Once the grading controls had been set to produce the correct black level, most of the picture noise simply vanished and the remainder was managed using the DVNR-1000 noise reducer as per every other story we have worked on. Jonathan Wood's grade pulled out a richness of colour previously unseen - indeed some of the London location film had to be desaturated to match the studio video as it was extremely colourful. Attention was paid to the special 'look' that the director had deliberately applied to the exterior shots on the planet Telos and the grade was sympathetic to the original, maintaining the cold blue and desaturated visuals.
Aside from these points, restoration was fairly straightforward. The episodes were graded by Jonathan, with manual picture cleanup by SVS and audio restoration by Mark Ayres.
(DVD extras to be confirmed at a later date.)
