    News from OG:

On his official forum, K9 creator Bob Baker has revealed more details about the forthcoming K9 TV series. Of K9's appearance, Baker said that he and associate producer Paul Tams are "very pleased with the new look and especialy with his CGI movement."

Baker confirmed that in his first appearance in the series, K9 will look "identical to the one Leela had on Gallifrey", before regenerating into his new form.

Replying to a question about whether John Leeson would be performing K9's voice, Baker said, "There is great debate about the voice, I take your point about using John, but, it being a co-production we have many masters to please, but I'm sure you and all K9 fans will like what we eventually come up with since new K9 is the same character and his speech patterns are the same."

Baker said that K9 will contain "a menagerie of super monster 'uglies'." He also noted that more images from the series will be released soon, probably at MIPTV in Cannes (which will be held from March 30 to April 3 this year). Baker's posting can be read in full at his forum.

The series' premise has changed from earlier plans. Details, from the website of production company Park Entertainment, can be seen by clicking on the spoiler box below.

A partial list of episode titles is also available, at the Metal Mutt production site. Australian actor Remi Broadway will appear as Robin Hood in episode 4, titled "The Last Oak Tree in England".

It looks dreadful. That K9 simply has no character to it.

It looks like a cartoon charicature drawn from a hazy memory of what K9 looked like it. But Pip is right. The series could be amazing...

It's somewhat amazing, and perhaps worrying, that continuity is provided to explain K9's change in appearance from "The Invasion of Time".

So is it confirmed that John Leeson won't be involved in this? I'm imagining the metal mutt being voiced in the style of Poochie from The Simpsons.
There's the opportunity for a truly toe-curling theme tune as well:

Yo! Who's the welded watchdog with the biggest bite?
    K-9!
I hear ya! Who's the laser-hound who's got the cats running scared?
    K-9!
    Oh yeah. He's man's best friend... K-9!

It's not K9's face lift that bothers me but those pesky kids. They look so smug and irritating. Why isn't one of the someone from Neighbours?

Ok, here's the teaser trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S0jOFRmAOc

I rather liked it. I know, I know... but they seem to have done a good job. K9's voice is a sort of Austrailian homage to John Leeson which is nice and there were some bits that made me smile too- K9 in a big cape!

I think it might be rather good as it turns out. Fingers crossed.

Shocking isn't it? Even the new ears are pretty good.

Zel seems to be channelling Si at the moment - her reaction to the trailer? "Oh my!"

Actually, it doesn't look that bad does it, after all the advance news making it sound, well, pretty awful. I don't know I'd go as far as one of the YouTube commentators ("This is pure awesome") but it could be worse. Although the voice just isn't right!!

I just don't know! It looks pretty exciting. On the upside it looks like they have the overall dynamic right - K9 is cute, immodest, fun, zippy, the music is good and it has that right "action adventure" feel. The Doctor Who-esque monsters are good too.

On the downside, I've a feeling his voice will grate and there's still nods towards that Scooby Doo esque 'c'mon kids' vibe that suggests it could get cheesy.

We really will have to wait and see with this one. The good news is, if they've made 26 episodes, there's bound to be something for everyone there somewhere. And if we approach it in the same way we approach "Dimensions in Time", it could be one not to take too seriously, but to get out at parties after a bit of wine.

I like the dramatic dynamic of it but c'mon, wobbly ears!
The voice does sound wrong though & he now flies. Not really the K9 I grew up with but is something completely new.
I think that might be the best way to view this, as a completely new show rather than a spin off of something else.

There's a note - that says "MIP TV TEASER. PLEASE NOTE MUSIC, TITLES AND K9 VOICE ARE NOT THE FINAL ONES TO BE USED IN THE SERIES. PLUS ALL MONSTERS ARE UNDER WRAPS"

    So that's good.

It looks like buckets of fun, combined with silliness and cringeworthy nonsense. With the Sarah Jane Adventures looking more disappointing after the wonderful first series, perhaps K-9 will be the one to watch.

I've just realised I feel this way too - I think I've been in denial because it desperately should be so good.

    Thank God:

Issue 411 of Doctor Who Magazine reveals that K9 veteran, John Leeson, will once more voice the robot dog in the upcoming series of adventures produced in Australia. Not only will Leeson voice the original character in the opening episode, he will also voice the redesigned model throughout the 26 episode series.

The programme is due for transmission in Australia in the spring of 2010.
It wouldn't have been right with another voice. Hurrah!
