The Diary of a Doctor Who Addict
Paul Magrs' new book for teenagers might strike a chord with some of us:
It's the 1980's and David has just started secondary school. He's becoming a teenager, but still hanging onto the rituals of childhood, particularly his addiction to Doctor Who, sharing the books with his best friend and neighbour, Robert, and watching the TV show with his little brother, Chris. But time moves relentlessly on, and Robert starts rejecting the Doctor in favour of girls, free weights and new music. Against a backdrop of Bowie, Breville toasters and trips to Blackpool, David acknowledges his own abilities and finds his place in the world.

This might just be worth a read, as its time line is almost exactly mine. There hopefully should be some nice parallels.

Replacing Dr Who for Bowie?
Some mistake surely?
ie: This looks like a good read!

He's becoming a teenager, but still hanging onto the rituals of childhood, particularly his twin addictions to Doctor Who and milk, sharing the books with his best friend and neighbour, David, and drinking a pinta milka day with his little brother, Chris. But time moves relentlessly on, and David starts rejecting milk and the Doctor in favour of girls, soya milk and UHT. Against a backdrop of udders, horns and trips to Guernsey, Rob acknowledges his own cow-bilities and finds his cow-shed in the field.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Sounds similar to Toby Hadoke's 'Moths ate my Doctor Who Scarf', which is a stunning stand-up about growing up as a DW fan in the 70s and 80s!
One Day, I shall come back, Yes, I shall come back,
Until them, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties, Just go forward in all your beliefs,
and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine!

Well it was announced ages ago now, but it's finally out next week.
I think I'll be getting a copy. I really enjoy his books.
