The villains in "The Tenth Planet" were named Cybermen from the spine of an encyclopaedia covering CYB to ERMINE.

The first three seasons gave an individual episode title to each episode, as opposed to story - this was done by Pamela Nash so that it would make it a lot more difficult for militant Doctor Who fans to follow the paperwork trail and stop her burning the tapes.

Although the show is called 'Doctor Who' the lead character is not. He is called 'Reginald Chronomaster'.

Jon Pertwee's shocking grey hair was a nod to the origins of the series by incoming producer Barry Letts - in other words, to save money, they made Pertwee wear Bill Hartnell's old wig.

I demand 40 years worth of adventures with Reginald Chronomaster!

Although the name does put me in mind of a character that looks a lot like Bilis Manger.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Did I ever mention my theory that Bilis Manger was an anagram...

It is; if you translate it from English into Mandarin Chinese, then back again via Polish, Russian, Esperanto and Swahili, the resulting mess is an anagram of Brain Cant in Cantonese.

    Attack of the Cybermen

This was the first Sixth Doctor story, following straight on from "Planet of Fire". There has never been any explanation for the change of Doctor, though a book explains that the Doctor previously ate Turlough for breakfast and found Peri in the TARDIS between adventures.

The Cyber Controller was played by Ian Levine, but as he wasn't a BBC staff member he was uncredited (Michael Kilgariff is an anagram of Levine Big Licks) and paid in props. He duly received an ex-gratia payment of Anthony Ainley's false beard from "The Kings Demons" in place of a fee.

The name of the junk yard in part 1 - "Totters Yard" - was entirely coincidental with the location of the very first Doctor Who episode. In fact, the real-life location was owned by Bernie "Totters" Tottman, a local businessman known for excess drinking and "tottering" home from the pub each weekend.

The original plan was that Peri's leotard was to have been a present from the Doctor, and would change colour every scene to reflect the temperature (for example, turning blue in the Tombs). This was abandoned when Nicola Bryant complained about the time it was taking her to change outfits between scenes.

Brian Glover was hired as part of a transfer deal with Tetley - in exchange for his acting services, Colin Baker recorded three tea commercials, although in the event these were never screened as he was sacked from Doctor Who before they were due to be shown.

Sorry Larry, but that's just too far-fetched.

    Default Big Lies

The Sensorites was originally written as a spoof of Doctor Who for childrens' TV show Crackerjack

The Time Monster - The acronym TOMTIT was suggested by Pertwee himself, because saying the word 'tit' always made him laugh, he would also try to shoehorn the word into his convention appearances.

Timelash was originally to be a six part adventure, but Michael Grade insisted that all realistic dialogue and sensible plot devices be removed from the script during the first rehearsal. Many fans believe this was his way of hammering the first nail in the series' coffin!

One actor considered to play the Sixth Doctor was 'Mork and Mindy' actor Robin Williams, but this plan was shelved when it was realised that he would be unable to portray the character with enough energy!

Meatloaf was originally cast as Mestor in Twin Dilemma, but was replaced when it was pointed out that he would not fit in the costume! He was later to appear in the series as the planet Jupiter.

Nicola Bryant appeared in a series of cheap american porn film in her youth, the proceeds from which, put her through acting school.
One Day, I shall come back, Yes, I shall come back,
Until them, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties, Just go forward in all your beliefs,
and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine!

William Hartnell appeared on Crackerjack in 1965, and whilst denying that he ever made any reference to fornicators in rehearsals, admitted that his favourite musical instrument was the pornograph.

Patrick Troughton, worried about typecasting, left Doctor Who and spent the next 15 years playing Meg Mortimer.

Jon Pertwee really had a collection of different heads, which he wore on Worzel Gummidge.

Tom Baker's body does not exist. He only exists as a voiceover.

Peter Davison is a qualified vet, and holds the record for the fastest operation for bovine gallstone removal.

    Colin Baker is Tom's dad.

Sylvester McCoy is jockey Tony McCoy's wife.

Paul McGann died in 1998, but nobody's had the courage to tell him yet.

Christopher Eccleston left the series because he read the scripts for the second series and was disappointed that he didn't get to snog John Barrowman again.

David Tennant and Arthur Lowe are the Pet Shop Boys.
