    Default The Claws of Axos

The DVD of this one arrived yesterday (four more to go, then I got 'em all - not counting 'City of Death'). Must say, not terribly bothered about the special features. From the SF point of view, it's quite possibly the worst DVD release since the UK version of 'The Five Doctors'. Thank god the actual story is good fun.

Indeed. I only bought it now cause it's coming up on my watch-a-thon. Good enough story, but not the sort I'd have expected to be release so soon, considering all the other good Pertwee stories yet to be released.

I think Claws is Glamtastic, reminds me of a 70s top of the pops with all that groovy glitter and glam in the Axon spaceship.

We watched this last week. I've always liked the story. It's very wintery and solid. The extras were ok I thought, I liked the Here and Now thing with it's barely changed locations. Nice gravelly narration from Katy Manning.

Not having the stories on VHS and not having seen most of them in 15 years, I collect them for the story much more than for the extras, so I'm not too bothered by them. I only ever watch extras one time anyway, whereas I hope to go back and watch the stories themselves over and over. That said, I quite enjoyed Claws of Axos. I watched it last Christmas break in fact. The night before New Years Eve in fact, shortly before concieving our son.

You should have called him Axos.

Isn't this just a really rather odd way of saying "five more to go"?

Not at all, Si. Since the odds of me actually getting 'City of Death' are extremely low...

We liked the blonde extra who's taking notes in Unit at the start. She should be Sheila Dunn but she isn't.

So the big question is - what's Andy got against "City" that he refuses to even buy it? Has he had a personal falling out with Julian Glover? Does he hate France? Is he a massive K9 fan? We need to be told.

Perhaps it's an aversion to false author names - if he declines to buy The Brain of Morbius and The Invasion of Time that will confirm it!

Incidentally, I got City of Death on DVD this very day!!!

Well, I shall reveal all when we get to season seventeen in the vortex thingy. Until then, I rest in the knowledge that my Who DVD collection (which will be complete by the New Year) is free from the mence of the city that is... death!

Claws isn't one of my favourite stories, but it was nice to catch a glimpse of a behind the scenes Roger Delgado

    As indeed are you, dear...

'Claws' was made in 1971 and for better or worse, looks like it. Anybody's response to it will be coloured by their response to garish psychedelic visuals, a superior supporting cast and Katy Manning's smalls.

    Personally I love it.
