    Default Jarvis Cocker/ Pulp

Jarvis is releasing his first proper solo single on January 8th, called Don't Let Him Waste Your Time. The promo video is out...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1oMtwmTaNQ

It's possibly the funniest music video ever made.

    Jarvis is my idol.

I was going to post a sarcastic comment but actually that's quite funny.

I saw Mr Cocker on Jonathan Ross last night, and was spectacularly underwhelmed by his new musical offering.

    Jarvis is 43.

Watch it with the video and you might appreciate it more.

The sound on Jonathan Ross sounded a bit off; Jarvis' vocals seemed drowned out by the music. It's a really good song actually, I'm already very familiar with it as it's already appeared on Nancy Sinatra's last album (the version she recorded in 2004). I think Jarvis originally wrote it for her.

Yep, spot on - I have that version too, I think Jarvis does it better personally, but then I do worship him!

Maybe, but this is Nancy Sinatra we're taking about. The woman who recorded with Lee Hazlewood and sung one of the best Bond theme songs ever.

But I shall reserve judgement for when I buy Jarv's album.

    Dave. No. Bad Dave.

Anyhoo, the video's bloomin' fantastic, I loved it to pieces, and even though I've now got the album (which I was listening to the for the very first time as I logged in to PS today, and before seeing this thread), I'll be getting the single (and try to persuade everyone I know to do so too) in the hope that it charts well.

The albums pretty cool too, though I'm only about a 1/4 of the way through it at the mo...

Edit: 3 hours later: And now I've listened it to it twice and love it hugely. A lot of albums take a while to grow on me, but this has grabbed me immediately.

It even makes up for Relaxed Muscle.

    Yep. It's that good.

I'm 33 and am getting better with each passing year!

Obviously, you'll have to take my word for that...

This was intended to be vaguely ironic. Jarvis being more of an old codger now than he was back in the glory days doesn't necessarily mean he'll never produce a decent tune ever again... I'm sure someone can lend him a hand, if they can, try and help him unwind...

Jarvis is doing a small tour next month:

    February 2007
    16 Sheffield Plug
    17 London Astoria
    19 Manchester Academy
    20 Glasgow ABC

I've waited a long time to see Mr Cocker in the flesh.

    It's still not Pulp though.

    God, that was cruel!

I have to add that I might go and see Mr. C myself.

I believe you can hear Mr.C's vocal 'talents' on the forthcoming new Air album 'Pocket Symphony' due out next month....

'Don't Let Him Waste Your Time' charted at #36 I see - not bad, considering the album was released over two months ago.

Would've been #10 were it not for downloads.

The single is no.5 in HMV's chart. Is this indicative of the national one?

Nope, HMV do their own chart. I expect it did well because of the offer they had - buy all three versions (1x CD, 2x vinyl) for 4, and I did.
