I would never diss Rolf. I saw him in a club in Nottingham, and twice at Glastonbury! That guy really knows how to work a crowd!

Ian, have you only been to one gig? I'll list mine, when I can spent more then five minutes thinking about it. There's a list on the old PS somewhere but I don't know where.
Yes- actually I can remember more about the support band, who were called the Dead Poppies, and one of your fellow Boltonians, immediately recognisable by wearing a t-shirt with "Lofthouse" written on it.

Perhaps in a while I'll be prepared to risk some money on another live do, but at the moment it's a lot of money when I don't know what I'm getting into. Plus the only real venue in Leeds is the university- there isn't a suitable venue for more than about 500 people bar Elland Road, so most of the big acts play Manchester or Sheffield.

I did however mean to list the Reduced Shakespeare Company under comedy- I've seen their Works of Shakespeare and Complete and Utter History of America.

What about The Blank Canvas on Granary wharf (where you have to cross a scary looking bridge over some underground canal type ...thing)? I went seeing Graham Coxon there last year. There's another venue of similar size in Leeds as well, because the Coxon gig changed venue at a late stage.

I know Leeds better than you, man!
I must admit, just when I think I'm king, I just begin!

Wouldn't surprise me, as I only go out in Leeds on works nights out. Once you factor in getting home late at night (another 30 for a taxi after the last bus goes at 11.15) and the general scariness of city centres at night, it doesn't even occur to me and a lot of the posters pass me by.

That said, I've lived in Otley for over ten years now and never once organised myself to go to the folk festival. I guess I'm just not tuned in to that sort of thing- yet.

I did once nearly go and see Nerf Herder, though.

Last night we went with Steve's parents to see a tribute to Jim Capaldi from Traffic, and there were legends of the rock world on stage! All hosted by the legendary Whispering Bob Harris!

So among the lesser known people we saw:

    Paul Weller
    Pete Townsend
    Yasuf Islam
    Steve Winwood
    Gary Moore
    Bill Wyman
    Joe Walsh

    Great stuff!

That must have been expensive... did it cost a marillion pounds?

Si and myself, along with my brother, his girlfriend and Yvash have booked up to see Air at the Kentish Town Forum this March. Can't wait! Lovely bit of Frenchy electro-pop.

I can now add Kristin Hersh to that list (and technically 50 Foot Wave as well) plus The McCarricks who were support and in the band.

Howling Bells were magnificent. Shame about the venue.

I loved seeing The Delgados live, I only got the chance twice but each time was fantastic, it was a real shame they split up.

I listed mine on the old forum, but don't have the password so I can do the copy and pasting malarky (or the old PS addy infact!), is there any chance someone could pm me it?

    Hmm, perhaps, if we remember!

This Friday I'll be adding AIR to the list of bands who I've seen live. Although technically I have seen them, they were at Finsbury Park supporting New Order a few years back, but I didn't really pay them much attention at the time.

    The White Stripes (Reading)
    Weezer (Reading)
    Spiritualized (Reading)
    Manic Street Preachers (V, Reading)
    Muse (Reading)

Plus countless other smaller bands like

    Willy Mason (Enterprise)
Grandaddy (Reading & a virgin megastore gig)
    Black Boxer Recorder (Union Chapel)
    Lambchop (Reading)
    The Delgado's (Brixton)
My Life Story (about 14 times now)

    The Audience (Junction)
    Martha Wainright (Glastonbury)
    Gorky's Zygotic Mynci (V96)
    Keneckie (LA2)
    Drugstore (LA2, Reading)

The Counterfeit Stones (about 12 times as my Sister used to work for them)
    Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster (Virgin)
    Ooberman (Madam Jo Jo's)
    Do Me Bad Things (Barfly)
    Subcircus (Reading, Brighton Essential)

    Arab Strap (Reading)
    The Polyphonic Spree (Camden Koko)
    Plastic Fantastic (Dublin Castle)
    Venus Inc (Dublin Castle)
    Exile Inside (Dublin Castle)

The only gigs I've been to in the last 12 months have been 2 My Life Story ones and a day at Guildfest, I really must get back in to gigging, it's just that there's not that many bands around at the mo that I really really want to see bar Arcade Fire, who sell out within about 3 minutes when their released.

This year it looks doubtful whether I'll make it to a festival either, which annoys as often I've found lots of new bands to love at them. Still, maybe a day at Reading will be possible, I don't think they've gone on sale yet...(I've just checked, and they haven't, but they do go on sale on the 19th of March...)

I saw a blues band called Cross Cut Saw in Otley on Tuesday- not bad in a toe-tapping way but a bit heavy on the amps in a small pub.

We went to see the Sugababes live and direct at Wembley Tina Arena last night.

They were really good. Strong vocals, all the hits (except the ones not on the Greatest Hits album natch) and a "Spice Girls at Earls Court" style moment where Dame Keisha Buchanan told off the men in orange for making people sit down. Get her.

How long were they onstage for? When the 'Babes played Shrewsbury last year, they were on for less than an hour.

I saw my first tribute act t'other night - U2UK, who were actually pretty good, even though I'm not really a fan of U2 (we took some service users from work, see). They were all good musicians, in particular The Edge was fine, and the lead singer had a great voice, probably honed from all those years touring the world.

    I forgot, he's not Bono.

They were on for about an hour and a half I think. About the normal length for a concert. Was it a proper gig or a festival type thing when you saw them? They had two support acts two which did about twenty minutes each as well.

It was an open air concert, featuring them and two support acts (neither of which I'd heard of), so, yes, it was really a Sugababes concert - Shrewsbury doesn't normally get a name as big as that, so they were quite a big draw. I saw them for free by peering through a gap in the fence, but most people had paid about 35 to see them, and quite a few were a bit disappointed.

    Glad you enjoyed them, though!

I went to see Maria McKee on monday night at Bush Hall.......

I've waited 22 years to see her (after catching Lone Justice on OGWT in 1985!), and she was worth the wait. She has a truly amazing voice (imo), as well as being a brilliant songwriter & great guitarist. She's very charming/cute on stage too. Not bad looking, either.....
