On Saturday night I saw the mighty Scooch for a second time, miming to all the hits (all 5 of them!) in Manchester's Cruz 101!

My friend later drunkenly demanded to be taken backstage to meet them, and amazingly was allowed to. He said the blonde girl was nice but Natalie Powers was a bitch who wouldn't have her picture taken and said "come on, lets get out of this shithole!" To be fair she wasn't far wrong but still.

Cruz 101 sounds like a classy joint. Natalie Powers calls her mimsy her noony according to someone P Bal knows.

We spent Friday evening in the company of Sir Jason O'Donovan knocking out his hits and token new songs at the Hammersmith Apollo. We saw Matt Willies out in the streets before hand and Chesney Hawkes popped up to do his hit at one point too. It was all good stuff and "RSVP" is now our favourite forgotten SAW single.

She reminds me of Matilda Ziegler.

In an hour or so, I'm off to Leeds with Papa Madeley to see Marillion play some jaunty tunes. Being the obsessive he is, my dad wants to queue up early so he can be at the front. Thank God my mobile phone can play videos, I won't die of boredom.

Saw the Pop Goddess that is Sophie Ellis-Bextor live at Carrow Road here in Norwich last night. She was fantastic, a siren vision in shimmering green.

The Greek bloke on afterwards wasn't bad, either.

She was really good, certainly got the crowd going, although sadly the effect was rather lost when Michael didn't come on for the best part of an hour after she'd finished.

I felt sorry for the people on the other side of the ground too, as Sophie was just on the left-hand side of the stage with her band, so those on the other side didn't get much of a view of her. And her tiny, tiny, shiny green dress.

In all seriousness though, Michael was fantastic when he finally got on, really great stuff. Despite the footache I thoroughly enjoyed the night!

We can now add The Ghosts, whjo were average at best, The Feeling who were astonshingly good with loads of stage presence and wonderful show men, and Peter Gabriel, who's just brilliant and looked like he was having so much fun performing.

But yesterday's best were the reformed Crowded House, who were just absolutely superb. Hearing songs I never thought I'd hear live again was wonderful- they did them justice, and the new songs sound very good indeed. I got rather caught up in the music, and I must admit there were a few tears shed during Distant Sun, when it sort of hot me that my favourite band ever were playing my favourite song ever live on stage!
Then the rain came down hard and the crowd were still singing along, as they went off stage, everyone was chanting "We want more! We want more!" which was amazing. there wasn't enough time! They need a show eher they're the stars and enough time to play all the songs they needed.

Bloody fantastic! Worth standing in the torrential rain for!

Default What concerts have you been to?

I went to my first concert way back in 1984 to see the then massively popular Culture Club at Wembley Arena. I ended up seeing them twice and Boy George three times over the years. At Wembley stadium I saw Micheal Jackson in his Bad Tour, Madonna's Blonde Ambition show and Tina Turner. In between I also saw Belinda Carlisle, Heaven 17 and Bananarama.

September 2006 saw Robbie Williams playing the new Wembley Stadium, and I got tickets for Alison and I to go and see him as Alison is a big fan. So, imagine our disappointment when Wembley wasn't finished in time and the show got moved to Milton Keynes. We couldn't go that far and got a refund on our tickets.

So, to try and make up for it, I booked us some tickets to see Take That at the O2 Arena in London (formerly The Millenium Dome). We went last night, and we were totally blown away by the show. It was FANTASTIC! Sophie Ellis Bextor was on first and the lads from Take That then did a 2 hour stint that included most of their big hits! And we were as close to the stage as I am as close to my PC screen now. We had a brilliant night!

So, what pop or rock concerts have you been to, or want to go to? Did the shows you see blow you away or did they disappoint?
I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one to stand around looking impressed! What’s the point in having you all?

I've been to loads of concerts over the years and seen many of the bands that I have CD's of!

My first concert was at the Wembley Arena on June 6, 1993. It was the (reformed) Velvet Underground. I was so cool back then! It was dead exciting, even if the support act were a bit rubbish. But to get to see the band that I'd only recently discovered was thrilling. The highlight had to be the first encore, where they came back and John Cale was hammering out some strange, spooky synth-string noises, which slowly changed into the clanging piano of Waiting For The Man. You can hear it on the CD of the concert, though sadly the official release was of their Paris date. Even Lou Reed's headless guitar looked really cool.

    Heady days.

My number one concert was Oasis, Cast and Billy Ocean Colour Scene in the big tent at Irvine Beach Park. It was July 1995 and they were "doing new stuff" from 'What's The Story'/'All Change'. It was the Summer of Britpop, Cast's 'Finetime' had just hit the Top 20 the previous week and Ocean Colour Scene were doing some cool Small Faces stylee stuff (think they also did early versions of 'You've Got It Bad', 'Huckleberry Grove', 'The Riverboat Song' and 'The Circle' )

    MAD FOR IT!

Manics, Franz Ferdinand, U2, Blur, The Zutons and The Fratellis were also top nights, but The Cranberries and Belly at Murrayfield (supporting R.E.M) raped my decent tune lovin' childhood!

I was just going to link to this thread straight from Duncan's concert thread, but there's lots of stuff here, and I wanted to do an update, so I thought I'd just post it here (sorry, Duncan!):

Iron Maiden, with Funeral For A Friend (B'ham NEC, 2003)
    Atomic Kitten (B'ham NEC, 2004)
David Lee Roth, with The Quireboys (W'ton Civic Hall, 2004)

    Sugababes (Shrewsbury Quarry, 2006)
Loudon Wainwright III, Eliza Carthy & The Ratcatchers, Seth Lakeman Band, Vin Garbutt and others (Shrewsbury Folk Festival, 2006)
    Madness (B'ham NEC, 2006)
    Roger Waters (B'ham NEC, 2007)
Muse, with The Streets, Dirty Pretty Things and Rodrigo y Gabriela (Wembley Stadium, 2007)
INXS, with The Beat (B'ham Symphony Hall, 2007)

Kate Rusby, Paul Brady, Show Of Hands, Bellowhead, Kathryn Tickell, The Strawbs, Crooked Still, The Wailin' Jennys, Peatbog Faeries, Richard Shindell, Steve Tilston and others (Shrewsbury Folk Festival, 2007)
Crowded House, with Duke Special (B'ham NEC, 2007)
    Squeeze (Liverpool Philharmonic, 2007)

I'm going to see Squeeze on Saturday, but I thought I'd list them anyway. It's funny, I wasn't going to go to many gigs this year, but, in Roger Waters, Muse, and Crowded House (on both occasions!), in 2007 I've seen some of the very best concerts I have ever been to.
