    Default IOS

The Cisco IOS software provides features that enable Cisco devices to send and recieve network traffic using wired or wireless network.

Cisco IOS software is offered to customers in modules called images. These images support various features for businesses of every size.
The only bit that threw me when revising through this Chapter was the image bit...?

I gather that in this case "image" means something along the lines of a "disc image", which IIRC is a kind of representation or copy of the contents of a file or disc. My guess would be that they call these modules "images" because they're copies of existing, possibly uneditable, modules that are in whatever configuration the customer requires. In short, it sounds like it's just the terminology they like to use for these sort of modules.
