Does anyone else love John Wyndham as much as I do?
Which is your favourite of his books?

I like John Wyndham, but I don't love his work paticularly. The actual sci-fi imaginings are great, but he has a real problem with characters who aren't scientists. And his portrayal of women is also rather variable - There are significant female characters in The Midwych Cuckoos, but The Kraken Wakes was shocking for it's 'Oh heavens! Creatures coming out from the sea? Oh my!' women.
On the other hand, Midwych Cuckoos is brilliantly unesttling, The Kraken Wakes seems surprisingly real in the slow grind of the invasion and Day of the Triffids has inspired a generation of end-of-the-world writers.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Trouble With Lichen has an excellent lead female character. He's one of my favourite writers, Day of the Triffids and Web are my two personal choices. I love the way his stories so often are based around human error, there may be more going on, but they all seem to stem from man's hubris.

I love the way he collaborates with himself!
