He's been around a while, though:

I think he'd make an excellent Doctor.

Would the series have to be in black and white again?

    Yes.

Then they'll wipe all the tapes and re-use them to record episodes of Homes Under The Hammer.

Its a programme that never quite lived up to its title, I thought.

I was told Colin Salmon was once in the running for the Doctor role, I still look at him, and hear that wonderful voice of his, and think he'd be perfect.

I'll send The Lads round with sledgehammers to celebrities' homes, then youl'll get a more accurately-named series!

If they start with Jade Goody's house, can they make sure she's at home when they use the hammers.

(Of course the term 'celebrity is used here advisedly)

That would be magnificent. Even his small role in Stardust showed just how great an actor he is to this day, but well, we both know it ain't ever gonna happen!

I was thinking about this the other day, and I think Kevin McKidd could make for an interesting Doctor, he's really proved himself as a great actor in Rome and (especially) Journeyman, and I think he has a suitable gravitas which would make him very believable.

That or Dexter Fletcher. God yes, it'd kill the programme off, but I can't help loving that cheeky lookin' fella.

just a suggestion but what about Dean Lennox Kelly - on this occasion having previously been in the new series might not be to much of a problem as Kelly had long hair and a beard in the Shakespear code where as clean shaven and a short hair cut he'l look a completely different person.

Her-in-doors says that Ewan McGregor would be good & as an actor I don't doubt it but he'd be very expensive & in my opinion too short.
That, I think, is what McCoy suffered from & a lot of why his Doctor lacked gravitas & as much as I like Troughton his Doctor lacked it too, IMO.
You look at Pertwee & Tom, both very domineering characters & both in excess of 6'. Eccleston I believe is 6'1" & Tennant is 6'2"?

I believe it adds a good dimension if the Doctor has the ability to 'tower' over a problem. Si Hart would be an excellent Doctor.
