Who would you like to see as the Eleventh Doctor?
With the possibility that David Tennant may or may not be leaving during/at the end of Series Four, the question arises as to who you would like to see as the next incarnation of our favourite Time Lord...
In another thread, someone mentioned Jack Davenport as a good choice, and this is something that I agree with!
Ant x
(P.S. this thread is just meant to be a bit of fun! Personally, I'd like Tennant to stay in the role for longer!)

Jack Davenport could be a good choice. He'd be my second choice after Robert Carlyle.

Jack Davenport would be great - and he's already famous thanks to Pirates of the Carribean, so it'd be good for US sales

I stick by Jack Davenport! Plus he has a very solid working relationship with Steven Moffat who may well replace RTD in the future. He has also worked with Mathew Graham (?) on 'This Life' and has proved himself to be a solid versitle actor-with a superb head for comedy and tragedy. His US profile especially with kids through Pirates would also be a boost for the overseas market.

Isn't it time David Jason was linked with this role? He usually is with any other kind of role!
Some would say he'd be per-fick!Last edited by WhiteCrow; 29th Dec 2006 at 2:47 PM.

I'd have no complaints about Robert Carlyle , but some one I'd absolutly love to see in the part would be Johnny Depp..

I'd rather see Robert Carlyle get the role than Jack Davenport.

Robert Carlyle would be 47 by season four, I don't think he could take the punishing nine-month schedule to be honest. Or want to.

I don't think Robert Carlyle would want to do it; if he did, I don't think he'd want to do it for more than one season; and frankly, I don't think he'd be a good choice anyway.
Perhaps ironically, after having been oh-so-lukewarm to David Tennant during his first season, I've grown to like him in the part, so I would actually be very disappointed if he left before the end of season four (ie, until he's done a full three years).
As to potential replacements, well, the new Doctor could be a woman...

Jumping on the bandwagon I know, but it worked so well for the Sound of Music, they should have open casting for "How do you solve a problem like the Doctor", calling in members of the public for an open casting to be the next Doctor Who ...

I suspect Robert Carlyle is a case of identikit casting- pointing to somebody who combines the best features of Tennant and Eccleston without necessarily adding something of their own. And the Cracker connection would surely make Robbie Coltrane a shoo-in for the Twelfth Doctor (although that may not necessarily be a bad thing).
Given that the next Doctor may well have to straddle some major changes in the production team, a "name" actor may not be as adaptable as circumstances may require. If you hire somebody with Robert Carlyle's professional standing, they may not be amenable to changing their performance if new producers decide to take the series in a different direction.

Let's not forget cost either - I still think they'd cast someone who didn't command million pound fees every episode, as the show is obviously still watching its budget.

See, I could easily reduce the costs of making Who by offering to do the part for, say, 25000 a year and my living expenses. Save them a fortune it would!
I do like Whitecrow's idea though, that's marvellous. They could have a stern panel of judges made up of Terrance 'n' Barry, Tom Baker, and Gary Russell.
